This campground is heavily wooded. Great if it is hot out...not so great if it is Grey cloudy, and rainy. Sites were nice and spacious and most don't feel like you are camping with the next site.
Stay as far away from the bathrooms as possible. They are fine. It is the blasted hand driers. They are bathrooms with no electricity, only cold water, no soap...but they thought people needed electric hand driers? They are so loud and go off all night. I would give the campground zero stars solely based on the annoyance of the hand driers. Even in our truck camper we could hear them all night.
The location is nice being partway in on the Going to the sun road. As Avalanche is where you have to switch shuttles it is a nice advantage to getting in line early.
Would we stay here again...probably. we would not choose it for the campground but for the convenience of having the shuttle right across the street.

Great location inside the park. The first night we stayed at Apgar and decided to switch to a camp site that was closer to the hikes we planned. The camp host was very helpful. The site was clean, and maintained. Beautiful cedar trees and ferns surround the campsite. No lights in the bathroom, so bring a flash light. That was not a problem. I prefer to have a more rustic site that have bright light from the bathroom beaming inside your tent all night. I will be sure to camp here again.

Upon arrival the campsite was clear of any debris, the restrooms were nearby and clean, and the campground host was friendly and helpful. All-in-all, a very positive experience.

The volunteer campground hosts were very helpful with discussing the latest updates for the area. I was a little disappointed to see that many of the sites were a small pull through. Not many spaces had the ability to pack back in off the loop road. This is difficult to see in the pictures provided on the website.

Fantastic Campsite! Mostly level ground, perfect for a tent and a canopy over the picnic table.

Avalanche Campground has multiple entry points on the east and west side of the park.
West Side Entrance
- West Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of West Glacier (approximately 33 miles (53 km) from Kalispell).
- West Entrance – From Browning, take Highway 2 west to the town of West Glacier.
East Side Entrance
- St. Mary Entrance – From Columbia Falls, take Highway 2 east to the town of Browning (approx. 83 miles/134 km). At the traffic circle, exit onto Hwy 89 north and continue for another 30 miles (48 km). Follow the signage to the St. Mary Visitor Center / Going-to-the-Sun Road.

Avalanche Campground is accessible via Highway 2, which runs east to west near the park, providing access from both Columbia Falls and Browning. The west entrance is reached by taking Highway 2 to West Glacier, while the east entrance can be accessed via Highway 89 from Browning.

Policies & Rules
General
- Food storage regulations are strictly enforced. Grizzly and black bears frequent the area. When not in immediate use, all food, beverages, coolers, cooking utensils, pet food, or other attractants must be kept in a closed, hard-sided vehicle or secured in bear proof storage lockers near campground restrooms.
- Vehicle length limits. Vehicle and vehicle combinations longer than 21 feet (6.5 m) or wider than 8 feet (2.4 m) including mirrors are prohibited between the Sun Point parking area and Avalanche Campground.
- Maximum Stay. Campground length of stay is limited to 14 days.
- Noise must be kept to a low level that does not disturb other campers. Generator use in campgrounds is permitted only during the following times: 8 am to 10 a.m., noon to 2 p.m., or 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Fire Rings Only. Campsites contain fire rings but do not have fire grates for grilling/ food preparation.
- Hammocks. Hammocks must be hung over non vegetated areas using one inch straps or wider. Vegetation may not be trampled to access hammocks.
- Maximum Number of Tents. Campsites allow a maximum of 2 tents per site.
- No Firewood Collection. Firewood collection is prohibited within Avalanche Campground.
- Renting an RV or trailer? Per 36 CFR 5.3, commercial business may not take place inside Glacier National Park. This includes RVs and trailers being delivered within Glacier's boundaries. Renters of these must drive them in themselves.
