Lovely location. I stop there often. As night is empty to the west over the lava flow and just the twinkling lights of the little town of Carrizozo, 8 miles away against a range of hills. The showers are wonderful, the toilets as clean as any I’ve ever used at a campground, with toilet paper and hand sanitizer in the pit toilet. The campground host was wonderful. The only two reasons my overall experience was not five stars were the weather - we picked a weekend when the wind blew at 45 mph for 48 hours - straight, and the leveling of the sites. The one we were in was far enough off level that we had to turn the motorhome around, which made running power cables, complicated and waterline impossible.

Restrooms were clean, spacious and warm. Showers were hot. Grounds were clean and spacious. Have pull throughs as well as back ins. Staff were friendly and helpful. Had a neighbor that needed assistance in setting up her trailer and the host helped her all the way through setup. Sites had water and electric, and the dump stations was near the bathrooms/showers. I stay here quite often because it is so centrally located going from AZ to Tx. Great gift shop and excellent education opportunity.

The location and the campground are great. What is not okay is www.recreation.gov. It's so bad, we were 6 people assigned to site 6. Also, we were there for 5 nights and we had to register every morning before someone else signed up for our first-come-first serve site.
