I really enjoyed the shade structures which framed our view of the lake.

The only issue we ran into is the fire rings are not cleaned out after each camper leaves. The host told me shovels have not been provided by the Forest Service. Another issue some in our group ran into is the gate is locked after 10 pm till the next morning. One of the campers ran into a medical emergency in the evening and needed the code. I was told the code was emailed to everyone and the camper had phone and Internet access. I was not able to access the Internet or the phone. Overall I enjoyed staying at the campground.

The host was great, grounds were clean. The only problem was we reserved a site close to a latrine but it was out of order.

This campground, the falls and the general area are beautiful and we really enjoyed our stay there with one exception. We were camped in Loop 1 and the outhouse nearest the entrance was closed because it was full. My brother in law had chosen site 18 right next to the outhouse since my sister is disabled and that location was so convenient for her. Luckily they campi in a self contained unit and were fine for the week we were there. I’m dismayed that the USFS had not had the foresight to make sure the outhouses throughout the campground were ready for the season! I don’t know if others were closed for the same reasons. Even so, we are planning a return trip next year for our annual sibling camp out.

The campground is located in a lovely Ponderosa pine forest. There are a lot of attractions within driving distance that are easy to get to. Also Jemez Falls is a very short drove or easy walk from the campground.
I do have some criticism on the cleanliness of the campground. There is a host who checks reservations, and who sweeps the bathrooms and puts toilet paper out (he has no key to toilet paper holders so just stacks it on the bar). However, the bathrooms were never wiped down or washed during the entire week we were there, and the risers were getting pretty gross. Having been a host for a concessionaire in a different state and forest, the cleanliness of the bathrooms were a priority for us. The rules on the bathrooms also stated you were supposed to clean your campsite when you leave it (we did), but most do not. Lots of little bits of trash everywhere, and if the fire ring was full, people had obviously cleaned them, but dumped the ashes close by. Sad to see. I realize the USFS doesn't charge much for the night ($5 is really cheap), but people have no clue how to "leave no trace" at that price. Perhaps charge more, pay host & forest service workers more to maintain a cleaner campground.
