What Guests Are Saying
Black Canyon Campground is praised for its cleanliness, well-maintained facilities, and beautiful surroundings, making it a favored spot for campers. The spacious sites, friendly camp hosts, and proximity to hiking trails and Santa Fe enhance the overall experience. However, the lack of water has been a consistent issue, and some visitors have reported problems with caterpillar infestations and site accessibility.

When we arrived, there was no water at the campground. It was late, and we had to drive back into town to find water. This was extremely inconvenient with two small children. It would be nice if recreation.gov could email us ahead of time and let us know that there is no water to be had at the campground.

Have camped here before and loved it! This trip, no water at the pumps with no explanation why other than it’s been out all summer. Camp host was not friendly nor helpful. Electric was out as well which meant more generators than normal from the RV crowd. Sites were still nice, clean, and roomy. Vault toilet was clean. A great wooded site and still a good pick for camping close to Santa Fe.

The campsites are large and surrounded by trees. Even on the 4th of July, it was quiet in the campground. There was no potable water available at the campground and we had difficulty finding water nearby. Make sure to bring in enough water for your stay.

Sites are beautiful. Trash bins are full, camp host wears no mask in keeping with state mandate and is off duty most days. Sites are not correctly marked for reservations and many campers are turned away as a result. Very, very disappointing for such a beautiful campground.

Vaulted toilets are the only drawback here. Grounds are fantastic and the sites are awesome. Site 11 would only work for a tent camper and that wasn’t clear on the site so glad we didn’t come with the trailer for this trip. Overall a place we would certainly come back to. The area around in the forrest is Absolutely beautiful with many available trails for all ages.
