What Guests Are Saying

Sunburst Campground offers a beautiful and well-maintained setting in the NC mountains, with clean facilities and friendly hosts who enhance the experience. The campground is family-friendly, featuring a large field for children, access to hiking trails, and the West Fork Pigeon River for fishing and swimming. While some noise from nearby traffic and shooting was noted, many guests appreciate the tranquil atmosphere at night and the welcoming environment created by the hosts.

The campground is in good condition and the host was very pleasant. Someone on a nearby property spent a significant time shooting every day we were here, which was noisy and not the peaceful environment we anticipated. The large field between the campsites and the road is great for kids to run and play. The road did see a lot of noisy traffic (motorcycles, sports cars en masse, etc.) but the campground was very quiet at night and you could hear the river then. We probably will not stay here again, preferring a quieter experience all around, but if you are passing through or like to fish, it's a good spot. Not far to the Blue Ridge Parkway with close access to Black Balsam, Graveyard Fields, etc. for hiking and recreation.

This camp site is a hidden gem that while it doesn't offer full hookups for RV's, that fact also makes it a quieter spot for camper vans, tent campers, etc.

The price is reasonable, the bathrooms clean, and there are numerous areas to bbq. I did think firewood was on the pricier side especially given that you are not supposed to bring your own.

Lastly, the hosts were friendly and accommodating.

Overall, I would stay here again, and recommend this site as a quieter stay vs. staying closer to looking glass falls (this is on the other side of the mountains approx. 1 hr) and has, in my opinion, much more special than other more trafficked areas.

I was very impressed! The registration process was smooth. The site was roomy and out of cell phone service, forcing me to read a book after setting up my gear! I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and am looking forward to my next visit!

Everything about my experience was amazing! The camp hosts were incredibly kind and hospitable! Bathrooms were clean. Great for families. The no cell service was great, too! Very nice to fall asleep to the sound of the river across the road. I loved absolutely everything about my experience camping at Sunburst Campground! It's a hidden gem! I will definitely be back next year!!

We stayed at Sunburst campground for 11 days and had a wonderful experience, due to our camp host (Ronny Scruggs), who provided a friendly and helpful stay and entertained us with warm and funny stories (+ homemade apple butter)!! What a treat! We'll be back again next year to enjoy Ronny's hospitality and the gorgeous surroundings!

The campground attendants were very kind and helpful. They helped me out with boiling water each day and sharing information about the area. Great experience! Highly recommend!
