Nice quiet campground. At 3,400 feet, it is quite pleasant for August with wonderful camping weather. Sometime being in the clouds can be wet. Facilities are nice as well.

This will be the second time this year we camped at Standing Indian to cool off during these
oppressively hot summer months. As usual, the experience at the campground was great, but best of all, it's close to numerous small rivers and streams where a few trout are available for the patient fisherman.

From Franklin, North Carolina, take U.S. Highway 64 west approximately 12 miles, passing through Winding Stair Gap. Near the bottom of the mountain from the gap, turn left on West Old Murphy Road (State Route 1448) and watch for a directional sign for the campground. Go 1.9 miles and turn right on Forest Road 67 at the Standing Indian Campground sign. This is a paved road. Go 1.7 miles and turn right into the campground.
The campground is accessible via U.S. Highway 64, which is approximately 12 miles from Franklin, North Carolina, and connects to State Route 1448 (West Old Murphy Road) leading to the campground.
