Island had been closed for weeks due to hurricane. we went over 2 days after reopening. a lot of work and grading had been done and not much beach but a lot of trash on beaches. 2 of the 3 fish cleaning stations were gone which created a big problem. all cabins had multiple areas of roll roofing tacked over missing shingles our cabin leaked every day it rained. rented a 8 man cabin but only 6 chairs for us to use.

Wonderful place and the government needs to make all efforts to fully restore it and Long Point from the hurricane damage!

Do not go right after a storm. They will open up before roads or beachs are really ready.
The cabins were in as good of condition as they ever are, or the ones that were open.. Roads were soft and not run in.
Beach even had died horses laying on it. Light house and sound side were all in good shape.
Rangers this time were of no help for even advice. Need anything seek out the volunteers. But their limited by the ranges. So know the rules before you go.
Still a one of a kind primitive experience. Just know what your in for.

We so enjoyed getting away from all the business and enjoying time together as a family. We don’t fish but we camped and played in the waves and fell asleep to the sound of the ocean. If you don’t have a 4 wheel drive car you cannot go anywhere. This was fine with us!

Considering it was just after the hurricane went through , I thought everyone did an excellent job getting things in usable condition . Pretty comparable to previous visits all things considered. Beautiful island and comfortable rustic accommodations . Worth a trip.
