About North Mills River

North Mills River Campground is a rustic mountain getaway in Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina. Located just outside the popular city of Asheville, the campground provides access to a variety of cultural and natural attractions, including an arboretum, the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, and numerous hiking, fishing, and mountain biking opportunities.Winter Operations (November 16, 2025 - March 20, 2026):During winter months, this facility operates with limited services:No running waterNo electricityPit toilets onlySites 1-13 are available on a first-come, first-served basis for $15 per night (14-day stay limit). Sites 14-26 are closed during winter. Payment by cash or check must be placed in the fee tube within 30 minutes of arrival. Winter sites cannot be reserved online.

This campground was a little slice of heaven. You're in the woods, with no cell service, but the nearest town only about 5 miles away. There were trout fishermen on the little river each morning. We saw many waterfalls in the area, and the Biltmore House in Asheville was within an hour's drive.

As you drive down the windy roads into the campground, you are greeted with a beautiful campground along a river, great signage and directions in the camp. We stayed at site 19- which was perfect because it was the last campground so it had more privacy, most of the other sites had little to no privacy between campsites. The showers were clean but all the shower heads had extreme pressure and the water hurt as it came out of the shower heads- and majority of the shower drains did not drain so it became a pool of water. Overall the site is beautiful with no cell service ( which I loved) and was well emerged in nature with lots of birds, squirrels and other little critters- each campsite has its own fire ring and bear container to fit a cooler. Great campsite!

Bathrooms were clean and warm. Showers were hit are miss on being warm but nice and clean. Tent pads were tiny gravel nice base to put tent down.

The camp hosts are very nice and do a great job of maintaining the Campground. This Campground is in a beautiful place and we loved that there was very little to no road noise. The bathroom facilities were clean and well stocked.

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
