When I booked a "primitive campground" in a "national forest", I had visions of getting away from it all for a few days and being in a green space with like minded campers. This is absolutely NOT that. The majority of campers are in RVs and they are allowed to run generators from 6AM - 10PM! so forget peace and quiet. The "forest" is a small space of trees surrounded by a neighborhood where the main road has a speed of 50-60 mph. The listing for this spot says 21 miles of walking trails but since Hurricane Florence, there's still only 1.5 miles cleared. I was told there was no money to do the work needed, yet they are fixing the 1-mile road in for the cars and RVs. On weekends, this is simply a parking spot for locals who want to come to the beach area; not campers, people just sleeping off the day's activities done elsewhere. If you're looking for a primitive camping experience in the woods, RUN from this one!
Of note: The camp hosts -- Tonia and her husband are absolutely wonderful and sincerely caring people.

We really enjoyed our camping trip here! The camp sites are really large, clean and level. The camp host was very welcoming and informative. There is no fire wood to purchase but you can get a lot from downed trees all around. There are a couple of spigots for water and 2 vault bathrooms that were clean and really not bad for what they are (not smelly at all). We were in site 1. We took our kayaks and could walk our kayaks to the water easily and there was easy access to put in/get in. We don’t mind boondocking in the spring and fall and this was a great place to do it!! There is lots of shade from pine trees but NC summers can still be too hot and humid for me. Lots of gnats and little biting no-see-ums. BRING BUG SPRAY!

We really enjoyed our camping trip here! The camp sites are really large, clean and level. The camp host was very welcoming and informative. There is no fire wood to purchase but you can get a lot from downed trees all around. The campground host was a little overbearing with the Covid safety thing. I understand we need to social distance and be cautious and all that, but to be confronted while walking down the road and told that we can't visit any other campsites, not even to enter an unoccupied site? That decision should be left up to the campers, not the campground host, in my opinion. Otherwise, the campground is clean and the sites are spacious but bring plenty of bug spray! Facilities are minimal, no showers and bathrooms are crude. Better suited for travel trailers and RV's with their own facilities.

Beautiful isolated campsites. Very quiet. Water access is available. Ideal for fishing and kayaking. Wouldn’t recommend swimming. Very marshy. Bugs were awful!! The camp host was marvelous! Hiking trail nearby, dirt road for mountain/gravel bike riding if desired (not long) and beach towns nearby if you choose to leave camp.

Policies & Rules
Cancellation policy
- Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
- Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
- Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
- Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
- One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
- Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
- Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
- Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.
