Not for the faint of heart, the camping experience at Ocracoke is beach camping at its best. Hot, sunshine, sand and surf abound and the cold shower at the end of the day is heavenly.

If the wind dies the bugs are bad! The camping was great otherwise. Bring a solar shower if you like a warm shower. The cold showers are really cold. Bring a picnic table cover, and the tables are about 9’ long.

We love this campground! You need to be prepared for the weather and bugs, but if you take those precautions, you can have a very peaceful way to enjoy the sea right over the dune in the darkest place on the East Coast. We often see meteors and more stars than most places. My favorite extra is to hear the whippoorwills calling at night with the waves a constant background.

Great campground, however, the path going to the beach forked and without signage led people to walk through the middle of our campsite to access the beach. Even though we had a tent, bikes, and multiple vehicles in our site, there was no signage telling people to use the other side of the fork in the path.

Enjoyed this campground - well maintained - clean bathrooms - did not use the shower but they looked clean but not a lot of water pressure - more of a spray. Definitely a feeling of more isolation on Ocracoke which we enjoyed. Fairly easy walk over dunes to the ocean. Disappointed that Ramp 68 beside the campground is closed and would have liked more sound access. Beautiful night sky. Only one seafood vendor on the island. Wish we had taken our bicycles. Nice folks all around us. We did have one fishing rod go missing - we don't think we left it on the beach. :(

We love Ocracoke Campground and have stayed several times before. The biggest detraction here is no hot water in the showers. You have to be careful choosing a site to ensure its large enough to accommodate your rig. The camp hosts this trip were not what we are used to at National Parks. One couple seemed like "stoners" from the 70's and were not very outgoing or friendly.

For pocket change, you can pitch your tent next to the dunes and sleep to the sound of the waves rhythmically and softly landing upon the shore. Nothing beats that. Just be sure to bring mosquito repellent...
