First off we love Ocracoke, so anytime there is great. BUT ...
1. You're reservation system leaves a lot to desire. It was impossible to modify to change sites. The rangers even had difficulty.
2. Storm Ophelia came along and we were told to leave by Friday at noon. But this decision was not coordinated with the town or the ferry system. We managed to grab a camping site in town. Some people waited up to five hours to get off the island before the ferry closed down. Some people got stuck at the parking lots because there was no where to go. Some people who got off the island could only make it as far as Frisco. We were lucky that the storm wasn't that bad. But there was definitely lack of communication.

Mosquitos were atrocious! Warm water showers would help. Allow 24 hour generators.

The locations is wonderful. The campsites were well kept and the management very accommodating. We had to evacuate the campground due to Tropical storm Ophelia. The park staff made sure we were kept up to date with news and advice on leaving.

We enjoyed it very much. Quiet. Clean. Close to the beach.

ok campground the real cold showers are awful no reason they cant put some type of solar array to make the showers bearable. Unreal amount of bugs locals say they can't be stopped. Bug spray does not work.

Oftentimes very competent campground staff are not in office. Hire more crew. Great campground though.

Beautiful campground that really lacks decent showers with at least warm water. Who ever heard of camping without a campfire?? It's terrible. We always look forward to sitting around a campfire at night doing su'mores with the kids. There's nothing out there that will burn! You can't get sand and crab grass to ignite. All the trees are way on the otherside of the highway. Besides there's a huge fire dept. 3 minutes away.

Short walk to pristine protected national shoreline - what more can be said about location. It's fantastic. Rated as "semi-primitive" tent camping. There are showers, water, bathrooms available. There is very little shade from the small shrubs that grow so be prepared for some miserable hot days when temperatures are high. Plan accordingly. Cell signals are weak. I was traveling on motorcycle which presents some challenges if you find yourself in a thunderstorm - you'll have to scurry to the bath house for protection from the lightning.

We had an excellent time at the Ocracoke campground. The beaches were just a short 1-minute walk over the sand dune. The grounds were clean, though the grass could have been cut, it was extremely high. You get used to the cold showers, they are more refreshing then you think! I think with electricity, this campground would be perfection!
