About Wolf Ford Horse Camp

Wolf Ford Horse Camp is a reservation only campground located in the Pisgah Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest, near the town of Brevard. The campground is designed and intended for equestrian use. This campground provides access to a comprehensive network of multiple use trails, as well as creeks, streams, and waterfalls, which the Pisgah is known for. In addition to its many waterfalls, Pisgah Ranger District is famous for its scenic vistas and the Cradle of Forestry, which is located only a short 4 mile drive from the campground itself.  Wolf Ford Horse Camp is located 3.2 miles down Yellow Gap Road, gravel Forest Service Road 1206, therein providing a serene escape from the main visiting traffic on Highway 276. After you make your reservations online, we highly reccomend a stop to our visitor center located right off Route 276 near the forest entrance for help in creating your itinerary. Great site next to beautiful river. Clean with great tent site. Only accessible at the time by foot, bike or horse. Wife and I had great overnight bike pacing trip!

Great, peaceful, and clean. Horse tie ups made a great place to hang up wet gear. Bathrooms, even though a pit toilets, were clean and no harsh smell. A bit of a drive down a dirt road to get to the campground (about 20mins). Had cell phone service in the camp site.

I went there and the gates to the campground were locked so I had to find somewhere else to go.

Whoever had site 11 last, left a mess of hay & manure on the horse highline pad. It looked like they never cleaned it up the whole time they were camping.
They should be banned from camping there again!

Equine beware!! While the campground was clean and relatively nice, the horse trails were flat out dangerous. The majority of South Mill River trail should be CLOSED. the water crossings are not for the faint of heart, and 5 of the 12 (not 9) crossings had no trail on the other side or trees and washout making them impassable. We had to ford the river and find a new trail by dropping down into tue river or coming out of it somewhere else. The trail itself is basically an unmanaged deer trail - when was the last time anyone in the park cleaned it?? I strongly advise only experienced, sure-footed horses and confident riders.

Horse Gap Cove was barely a one track trail. It was another deer trail with a drop off on one side.

Bradley Creek trailhead from Yellow Gap Rd was impossible to find.

Horse trails are poorly marked and not taken care of. From camp there's only 2 ways to get to the horse trails, this is not a horse friendly campground by any means! Ride at your own risk, and do not ride South Mill River through the water crossing portions. It should not be open.

Nice and quiet and I had the place to myself for a night until the bear wandered through looking for scraps. Not too bad an encounter as he went around my site after I "got big".

Maybe my perspective is a bit skewed but I did not feel very safe here, and left after the first night. The grounds are kept okay, the picnic table I had was rotting. There's about a 10 minute drive down a gravel road with deep potholes to reach the campground as well and I had no service. If you like solidarity and being truly surrounded by woods and tall plants then this is a good campground to consider, however I am simply not the type.
