About Wolf Ford Horse Camp

Wolf Ford Horse Camp is a reservation only campground located in the Pisgah Ranger District of Pisgah National Forest, near the town of Brevard. The campground is designed and intended for equestrian use. This campground provides access to a comprehensive network of multiple use trails, as well as creeks, streams, and waterfalls, which the Pisgah is known for. In addition to its many waterfalls, Pisgah Ranger District is famous for its scenic vistas and the Cradle of Forestry, which is located only a short 4 mile drive from the campground itself.  Wolf Ford Horse Camp is located 3.2 miles down Yellow Gap Road, gravel Forest Service Road 1206, therein providing a serene escape from the main visiting traffic on Highway 276. Consequently, this campground provides the perfect launching point to explore many different destinations in the Forest, including the Blue Ridge Parkway, 276 Corridor, and countless other waterfalls accessed off of the district's many gravel Forest Service roads. After you make your reservations online, we highly reccomend a stop to our visitor center located right off Route 276 near the forest entrance for help in creating your itinerary. The visitor center provides a wide variety of resources and local experts happy to answer any of your questions.

This is a very nice little campsite in a beautiful area. Unfortunately, I arrived after dark for my campsite and a group of mountain bikers had taken my spot. The spot next to mine had a large group with string lights up and loud music going, basically a party, and the rest of the spots were all full. Granted, it was the Friday night of Thanksgiving weekend. Even if my spot hadn't been taken I would have left since the vibe wasn't the experience I was looking for. I like the idea that there are self-policed sites in the wilderness but it seems that at this location it's not really working out, so perhaps a few short regular visits from a ranger would be required. I was just a hunter looking for a place to sleep so no big deal, I went up the road and slept in my truck, but the horse riding crowd for whom this camp is originally intended would be pretty bummed that it's becoming overrun by yehas.

Stayed on site #4 - mostly level, site was far back enough off the road that you really couldn’t see us unless you were standing in front of our campsite. Good border of woods on both sides, so our neighbors were well blocked. No water/electricity/camp host. Pit toilets only. Rangers came around once while we were there (just a drive by, didn’t stop). Would have been absolutely perfect if the folks in campsite #3 had kept their German shepherds in their campsite. Will go back again and aim for site #1,2,3 or 7, 8 (more sun), unless it’s dead summer and needing the shade.

A black bear cane during the night on the camp. Amazing to see it but be careful with garbage
