We have been going to Bandits Roost for many years and enjoy the campground and lake. It is sad to see that no improvements have been made to the campground in many years. The roads are in need of repair; the campsites are in need of gravel and wood repairs at the steps and border. The restrooms are severely outdated and need upgrades. The front security arm has been broken for months, and we were told lacked funds for repair. Why are the campground fees being diverted to other uses instead of upgrading the campground?

Upon arriving early, were told by host/guard house keeper to go down the road and wait for over an hour because we were early. He further said that maintenance had to "go check the site water and electrical as always". We waited, and the next day several sites around us began to fill up at between noon and 3PM with no maintenace or even a person looking at the sites. Does this man and woman in the gate house have something against us? This is our third visit, and every time these folks have either made us wait of go online to change something in our reservation. Do they only like locals, as we've seen them around camper's campfires in the evening. They are not inviting pesonalities, and should not be allowed back next season. They do not own the park and make their own rules for out of town visitors.

From Winston-Salem, North Carolina, take Highway 421 North (approximately 55 miles) to Exit 286B, turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Jess Walsh Road. Campground entrance is located at the end of the road.
From Charlotte, North Carolina, take I-77 North (approximately 60 miles) before merging onto Highway 421 North towards Wilkesboro/Boone. Continue to Exit 286B (approximately 20 miles), turn left onto Highway 268 and continue for approximately 5 miles. Turn right onto Jess Walsh Road. Campground entrance is located at the end of the road.

Winston Salem: 1 hour.
Charlotte: 1.5 hours.
The campground is accessible via Highway 421, which is approximately 5 miles from Highway 268, and I-77 is also within reach, merging onto Highway 421 toward Wilkesboro/Boone.
