We stayed at Fort Hamby as a base location to attend the annual spring music festival at Wilkesboro Community College. Bathrooms were clean. In addition, the washed out areas next to the (narrow) campground road had been filled in with crushed stone. This was very helpful for backing our trailer into the campsite and pulling our trailer around the campground loop.

This is a quiet and peaceful campground with good size campsites. The bath house is very clean. Some sites have views of the gigantic lake, and there are some trails and disc golf as well.

I screwed up my reservation and thought I was leaving on a Monday instead of Sunday. They were very nice at the office. The person who had reserved the site after us had cancelled at the last minute, so we were allowed to stay in place after making a new reservation. The problem came the next morning when leaving the dump station to go to the gate house to exit. The dump station is on a hill and the incline is fairly steep. Coming out of the dump station, our trailer "Bottomed out". We weren't aware of it until we were 200 miles away when someone flagged us down and said a part of our camper fell off. When we stopped to survey the damage, we were stunned that the back panel was gone, the bumper was crushed, the rear left stabelizer was bent, the skirting was falling off and all scratched up, and the framing post was snapped. I turned it into my insurance, but it's probably $5000 worth of damage. I've camped at Fort Hamby several times over the years and have never had this kind of problem. I was aware that I needed to drop off the window card at the gate house and I went far to the left to square up my truck with the drop box on the side of the gatehouse and the mechanical arm. If I had just angled my truck out like most people do, I probably wouldn't have had a problem. Now, I have lost my whole summer of camping while waiting to get my camper fixed. Bummer!

Great clean campground with very friendly and helpful staff. First trip there and would come back again. Roads and edges could use some maintenance. Some curves are challenging with a 35 foot TT but now we know the lay of the land we know what to expect.

Our cell phone provider is Spectrum, so we had no service at Fort Hamby except for using our data. Thank goodness we have unlimited data.
