For people visiting the South Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Cottonwood Campground is a great place to stay. Located five miles (8 km) from the entrance to the South Unit of the park, the campground is open year-round. Our tent campsite (65) was a bit small and didn't have a good spot for our tent or a dedicated pad but with the exception of a pair of great horned owls perched over our tent in the night, the campground was overall clean and quiet. My son was thrilled to find modern restrooms. Love that you could reserve a site as we drove from quite a distance. As an added bonus a bison liked to bed down nearby so when we got up in the mornings we had some unexpected company to enjoy and while we spoke quietly and moved slowly. ;)

We just love Cottonwood Campground and go there from Canada 2 or 3 times a year. There are large campsites and more wildlife than you will see anywhere else, from what we've seen. The Rangers and other staff are very nice. Beautiful place, especially when it's green from the rain!
