Downstream Campground (ND)

Beautiful location for camping! Lots of trees for shade and plenty of wildlife at dusk. Sites were spacious in most sites except first come first serve area where it was pretty close quarters. This area didn’t appear to really be first come first serve as the same small tent had been moved over different days to hold the prime spots. Exiting was more difficult for larger units and the wait time for clean out was long and complicated due to the stations location and the accessibility was tight quarters.

The beach and boat ramp and water access locations aren’t important to us but my son and his family would not stay here because they really aren’t convenient for on and off the water daily use.

Is beautiful campground, well maintained. I wish it would be open for few more weeks in September.

Nice level campgrounds, paved and relatively quiet. I would like to see water hook ups and would be willing to pay a little extra for them. The camp hosts this year were very nice and accommodating. They can make all the difference between a pleasant stay and unpleasant. Previous camp hosts have been rigid and unfriendly.

Our family loves to camp at Downstream Campground! Its honestly our favorite place to go. The camp sites are all spacious and clean, and the area is so peaceful. We feel comfortable letting our kids bike around the loops on their own because we can keep an eye on them the entire time. There are two playgrounds with swings and jungle gyms that the kids also enjoy. The nature path is beautiful and the sand dunes are so cool. The only down-side is that towards the end of June/July the mosquitoes can be bad, so we avoid the campgrounds during that time. The best time to go there is fall. :)

The check in was really a nice man who let us go pick out a site. Nice hiking trails. Quiet and away from major roads and trains. So a great nights sleep. Really great find.

I was at the end of the road area, tent camping. I remember this place as 'non-camping' 30 years ago. Now wall-to-wall people. I slept in the back of my truck but was told I HAD TO PUT UP A TENT EVEN IF NOT USING IT, so I did. I thought that was a bit bogus.

Very nice campground, the setting is great. Enjoyed camping with friends and relatives. Playground is great for young kids.

Very clean and well kept campground. Stayed during the week, and although the campground was moderately busy, it was very quiet.

We LOVE camping downstream at Garrison!. We meet family there and have a great couple days visiting, enjoying dinner and cocktails in the evening, walks, games and just relaxing. The park is always clean, the bathrooms are wonderful, a place for the kids to blow off steam and we can bring our dog :) Every time we have stayed in summer and fall it’s been very pleasant. There was only one time that was bad. It was 2 years ago and a horrible storm had hit the area and other campgrounds. The temperature and humidity was super high the day of the storm and the mosquitoes were in a frenzy, so bad we stayed inside the motor home and watched a movie. That night was very frightening, but there wasn’t as much damage and I only imagined. Thank you for keeping a wonderful campground for all to use❤️

Nice easy access to camp sites...was very peaceful...was a playground for the kids as well....checking in, the host was very helpful and pleasant....
