About Mel Rieman Rec

The Mel Rieman Campground and Recreation Area is a 70-acre facility on the shoreline of Lake Ashtabula in eastern North Dakota. The campground is known for its spectacular sunset views. It is close to the Baldhill Dam and within walking distance of the Mel Rieman day-use area, where visitors can swim, fish and picnic. Lake Ashtabula was created by the construction of the Baldhill Dam on the Sheyenne River in 1944, and is situated in one of the most scenic river valleys in the region. Visitors can choose from a wide range of recreation opportunities year-round, including ice fishing and cross-country skiing during winter months.

Very clean restrooms with free showers. Sites are nicely separated by trees and shrubs. No other amenities or trails in the area

I was there during the week and the campground and beach was very quiet. I rented spot 3 - it was great and more private then some of the sites. Trash, bathrooms, dump station were nearby and I used the public shower one night and the button was pretty fast but the water was warm and the shower was clean. I'll be back.

Small campground with basic amenities. Level spot for RV. Visited during early May and the ticks were very bad.

1

Old scrub brush and volunteer tree growth in road ways making turns too tight for long rigs. No one there for check in and no map to find your camp site in entry area. Truly a self service, campers leaving at dusk, not the given checkout time(wonder if they paid at all).
