What Guests Are Saying

West Ashtabula Crossing is a charming campground with well-spaced sites and good access to water, making it ideal for boating and kayaking. Many campers appreciated the new electrical upgrades and the friendly park rangers who ensured safety. However, some noted challenges with the check-in process and uneven ground conditions at certain sites, which could make navigation difficult, particularly for larger campers. Overall, visitors enjoyed their experiences and expressed a desire to return.

I love this campground, but it is in dire need of updating. The electrical isn't big enough to handle today's rv's that everyone and their mother has now. Many of the sites really need some ground work attention. A play ground and more water locations to fill up over the weekend would be nice. Otherwise it is a clean campground with friendly Rangers.

Our campsite was clean and fellow campers were pleasant. Our site was along the water but with campfire smoke and some light insect repellants we were able to keep the bugs at bay. Most of the sites do not have a ton of privacy/trees/bushes between them, but the sites are large enough and spaced out well so that we didn't feel like we were on top of our neighbors. The campground host stopped by to visit with me and check in on if I was camping alone as I was setting up; my partner had not arrived yet. As a younger female, I did appreciate him looking out for my wellbeing in that way. The flush toilets and showers are located at East Ashtabula Crossing which is just across the river, at the other end of the highway bridge. They have a nice playground and swimming beach on that side, whereas the West crossing has a bigger boat landing area and fishing piers. There is also a fish cleaning station present. The Crossing bar & grill across the river is a nice place to eat, grab drinks at, or pick up other convenience store type necessities, they also sell firewood. Lake Ashtabula is a lovely place to spend some time at during the summer and you're bound to find a favorite campground out of the 4 that are available! Very pretty views, great fishing and opportunities for activities on the water.

Having never been there before, the sites(2) I reserved were muddy and not level at all. Thank goodness the campground host was able to move us to unreserved sites that were not reserved and were more level and had a gravel base. Also cell phone service on ATT was nonexistant.

Policies & Rules

Cancellation policy

  • Reservation fees are non-refundable. For campsites, cabins, lookouts, yurts, group sites, and similar stays, we charge a reservation service fee of $8.
  • Standard cancellations usually have a $10 cancellation fee. Customers can generally cancel before the check-in date online.
  • Late cancellation rules differ by stay type.
    • Individual campsites: cancelling after 12:00am local time the day before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • Cabins, lookouts, and yurts: cancelling less than 14 days before arrival usually means a $10 cancellation fee plus forfeiting the first night's fee.
    • One-night reservations: a late cancellation usually forfeits the full amount paid, up to the total original reservation cost.
  • Modifications are allowed before the cut-off window, but fees depend on the change. Changing to dates completely outside the original reservation dates may trigger a $10 change fee. Extending or shortening a stay that still includes original dates usually has no change fee, though refunds may depend on timing and facility rules. Switching to the same type of campsite for the same dates usually has no change fee, but price differences are charged or refunded.
  • Early departures may or may not be refunded. At certain facilities, partial refunds may be possible if staff can mark the site available for other visitors. No refund is given for a night if the early departure is requested after that day's check-out time.
  • Security deposits are separate. Security deposits may be refunded to the original payment method if the facility is left in acceptable condition, as determined by the property.

  • No outside firewood is allowed due to invasive insect concerns.
  • Buy firewood locally and burn it on-site to protect forests from pests.
