What Guests Are Saying

Mona campground offers a great mix of sun and shade, with ample space between sites and clean bathrooms. The location is ideal for biking, hiking, and kayaking, and the camp host, Leslie, received high praise. While it can get crowded and noisy due to local visitors and water activities, it remains a lovely spot for camping, albeit with some bugs and algae in the lake.

Campsites are prime right along Blue River Lake. The camp hosts John and Sheila are a true delight. Very attentive and knowledgeable of everything around the area.

Had such a wonderful stay at Mona. It was my first time but I hope to return as soon as possible! Firewood was available, bathrooms were well-maintained, and the lake was visible from our picnic table. Plus. the camp host was so kind and helpful! The only drawback was I was there with a fractured ankle (not the campground's fault, not a factor in my rating!), and it wasn't the easiest to reach the bathroom from our site. I wish I would have brought a scooter or something. That said, I just need to be more careful playing basketball before any future camping trips.

I have been coming to this campground for years. No matter who the hosts are, they are always friendly, polite and have a few stories to tell, and John was no different. Great host! The water, just perfect for fishing, was right behind our campsite, which was clean and picked up when we got there. Got in the boat and went around the corner from Mona and caught two 11" trout within minutes. I have been here in the rain, hail and magnificent sunrises and this place works its magic on me. Spot #5, if you are lucky enough to get it, is the best of all. It is more like a group spot, since you can place about 4 or 5 tents in it. We had #6 this time and it's not too shabby either. All in all, love this campground. Looking forward to my next trip!

Great sites, clean bathrooms. Sites were mostly spaced out and large. Water was clean and cool but warm enough for swimming and floating. Camp hosts were very friendly and easygoing. Saturday and Sunday were very busy with the day use just across the lake but everyone left on Monday and we basically had the campground to ourselves for the rest of the week. Downside: lake was not accessible from campsites and the bugs were very intense.

It was a very nice spot. Steep cliff to get to the water. It wasn’t a long walk across the bridge to get to the other side where it’s easier for swimming. It did mean packing up all of out stuff each day to go swim. Still beautiful quiet spot

This year was a far better camping experience due to the unseasonal rain in May and June that gave a higher water level in the lake as compared to last year.

Lots of mosquitos being by the water, come prepared! Clean site and bathrooms were cleaned daily. Peaceful spot to camp

Bathrooms were kept clean which is hard to do with vault toilets. Friendly camp hosts that were very helpful and sold seasoned firewood.

The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was not the camps fault. It were the vicious mosquitoes. Natural herbal repellant definitely did not work with these mosquitoes. Yikes!!!

Great trails that led to the best swimming area. Excellent shade. Lots of trees close enough together that we could hang 3 hammocks.
