Black Canyon Campground (Willamette National Forest, OR)

Was very peaceful and relaxing. A short walk to the river. Lots of trails throughout the campground. First time camping here and we will definitely return.

LOVED how clean and well maintained the bathrooms are. Very peaceful camping spot with access to the water.

This is a very nice campground, the spots are very private. I have to say… I was in spot 40 with a 23 foot trailer. I found it difficult to get into my spot and then leaving as the road is narrow with significant trees and shrubs, giving you very little wiggle room. I’d definitely come back, but with a tent or pop up trailer. There is a little road noise and the occasional train, but I found this to be a quiet and peaceful campground. Very very clean.

Our site felt secluded and you could hear the river clearly when the traffic died down. As other reviews mention, there is highway noise. There is also noise from the trains. During the late afternoon they were not so bothersome (only 3 passed, no horns blared), but somehow the trains at night sounded like they were right next to our tent. Even though we anticipated train noise through the night I still woke up in a panic each time because it was so loud. But I would say that we greatly enjoyed our stay regardless. No cell service so we enjoyed our time reading our books and sitting by the river. Cute spot close to Eugene.

Lovely campground by the middle fork. Several sits have direct access to the river. Rocky and in May cold, but perfect for august

I Love it here. Right beside the River fed from Glacier melt, so even in the very hot days of summer, the swimming area has very cool water to chill in. Although it is a DRY campground, if you bring your own water and stove, it can be quite cozy. Three unfortunates about the campground. Because it is in the heart of the forest when fire restrictions are in place, you cannot have any open fires in your campsite. Also, the campground is just off of Highway 58, so there is a fair amount of vehicle noise. Plus, just the other side of the river there is a major East/West train track. Trains go rumbling uphill and downhill at all hours of the day and night. Personally I love the train sounds. There is crossing nearby, so there is no blaring of their horns.

Beautiful campground, but the train went by 3 times in the middle of the night and it’s right across the river. One of the loudest trains I’ve heard, it’s close enough that you can hear the train wheels scraping as the train turns. Pretty cool experience but wouldn’t do it again.

Lovely shaded site, we come here a lot. Spotlessly clean, great hosts!
