This is a very clean camp with excellent campground hosts. I have camped here a number of times over the years and have never been disappointed. This year our party decided to take the drive between Kimberly (on the John Day River) and Monument to the East. Besides being such a beautiful drive, with many thriving farms, we viewed an Osprey nest at the City Park near Monument. Within just a few more miles is the John Day Fossil Beds. The interpretive center is open Thursday through Monday. I'll be back!

It’s not under shade. It’s miserable which it is not designed for the tent. It’s perfect for RV only. I left early on Saturday morning instead of Sunday. I can’t handle this anymore.

This is one of the cleanest and best maintained campgrounds I have ever been to. I'm retired and have been camping for many years. The toilet vaults were very well maintained. The camp hosts (Jody and Heather) were awesome. They addressed any issues as they arose and kept the campground enjoyable by keeping loud groups under control and dogs on leashes. Jody and Heather took care of the campground like you were a guest in their home. They visited with us, gave us local sites suggestions, and brought firewood to our campsite every night. I had a very enjoyable experience, and enjoyed getting to know the most enjoyable hosts.

The campground during our week day stay was mostly quiet. Our arrival was greeted with rudeness from the camp host. She told us we were 2 hr early and checkin was at 2 p.m. There was no one in our spot. We had travelled 3.5 hr and would of gladly waited if it was a problem. She went on to inform us that her husband is a forest service employee and he would be there later that night. Not sure why that was important for us to know. Instantly sored our arrival.
Our 2nd day we asked where we take our bag of garbage. There is no garbage dumpster. She informed us they don't have any, due to bears. (I guess a bag of garage in the back of our pickup is not an attraction) Be prepared to haul out days of garbage.
The lake is small. Saw people fish, but never saw any caught.

We stayed at site 28, right in front of the lake. It was gorgeous! Clean site, well shaded (photos of campground might be old because the trees are now larger than pictured).
Bathrooms well stocked and cleaned, camp hosts were kind and provided free firewood.
The wildlife was so fun to watch, and the campground was quiet after 10pm. I would absolutely come back again!

We have been here several times. The bathrooms are exceptionally clean. The camp host is wonderful and super helpful. The lake is great for floating around and fishing. We'll definitely be back again.
