This is a gem of a campground, made even better by Heather the camp host, who is hands down the most hospitable camp hose out there. The little lake is great for fishing, paddling and strolling around. The campground also provides a nice base camp for exploring the fossil beds. Be sure to stop in Spray for a slice of pizza at Topwater Pizza.

Bull Prairie Lake is the Clark Kent of campgrounds—mild-mannered and often overlooked next to its flashier cousin, Jubilee Lake, but secretly kind of a superhero. Tucked away in the Umatilla National Forest, it’s got charm in spades: towering trees, campsites spaced out far enough that you won’t accidentally borrow your neighbor’s s’mores stick, and campground hosts who might actually be forest elves in disguise.
Now, it’s not our all-time favorite USFS campsite—but it is hands-down the best-run campground we’ve ever visited. Enter Jody and Heather: the dynamic duo of hosting. They greet you with such warmth you’ll wonder if you accidentally joined a family reunion. And the firewood? They’ve stockpiled what looks like the entire forest floor—free for campers, no strings (or pine needles) attached.
Heather cruises the campground like the mayor of Happy Camper-ville, spreading cheer and chatting like everyone’s an old friend. If you’re planning to camp while they’re still hosting, do yourself a favor—go. Bull Prairie Lake might not be famous, but with Jody and Heather running the show, it’s legendary.

Bull Prairie Campground was a hidden surprise! This was our first visit and it was 5 - star quality all the way around. The campsites are well spaced apart from each other with lots of trees for shade. The campground was quiet during the evening. The vault toilets were the cleanest we have ever seen anywhere. The campground hosts, Heather and Jody, take great pride in keeping them clean and well - stocked with air freshener, hand sanitizer, and toilet paper. The water is potable and is tested every month. Heather delivered free firewood to our campsite every night. She even stopped by with special treats for the kids; glow sticks, bubbles, and slime. She was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and how to fish the lake. The road into Bull Prairie is completely paved. The path around the lake the paved with many spots to fish. This campground is amazing and you will want to make sure and go for yourself. The fishing was great too!.
