What Guests Are Saying
Haystack Campground offers a well-maintained and quiet environment, with friendly and attentive hosts who keep the facilities clean. Many visitors appreciated the ample camping space, beautiful views of Mt. Jefferson, and easy access to the reservoir for fishing and swimming. However, the campground is plagued by numerous mosquitoes, which can detract from the overall experience, especially during peak season.

August was the wrong time of year to stay here. Hordes of mosquitoes feasted on me, even after I applied sunscreen. The camping site was ample with a bathroom nearby and the host was friendly and knowledgable.
I don’t understand why campgrounds at this reservoir are under different jurisdictions. If I had realized this campground was federal, I could have used my senior pass.

Don't waste money on any bug spray or any type of mosquito repellent "it doesn't work" those mosquitoes are a different type of breed they repellent/blood thirsty also don't stay outside past 7:30pm that's when they really get you but for the most part have fun and swim with the fish.
And for the for the recreation.gov exclude those pests and I'll be back next year with no bug spray
Sincerely- mosquito eater

The camp host, Steve, did a good job keeping the campsite clean. A good distance away from the highway, so very quiet. My site was close to the reservoir; the view toward Mt Jefferson in the morning was beautiful! The only downside is that the mosquitoes were ravenous and basically impervious to the bug spray.

Great campsite, host was very friendly. The only issue is the mosquitos - remember to bring bug spray!

Enjoyed this campground very much -- quiet, nice flat campsite with table and fire ring, water available, and lake swimming. Campground host very helpful and friendly.

The camp host Steve is an absolute gem of a human. He maintains the place like no other campground I’ve been to, and it shows how much care he puts into the place.

The camp host was amazing. Although, our spot (#24) which was originally shown to have a water view/view of Mt Jefferson, did not and was fully obstructed by trees. Easy water access from the day use area though, although I would not recommend swimming in the reservoir!
