Siltcoos Sand Camping offers a very nice campsite experience with easy reservation and the charm of nature, including wildlife sightings like frogs and great blue herons. While some campers noted noise from partying and ATV use, as well as issues like trash and mosquitoes, the site is generally quiet, secluded, and spacious. The roads may need maintenance, but overall, many found it to be a great area away from the beaten path.

Great large camp for families. Kids love it! Just a huge sand box to play in.
Do your homework before you go. Make sure you have the mandatory equipment before driving on the sand. This section of the dunes can be thick so be prepared. Close enough to the road that most rigs can make it to the site, but far enough away to feel privacy.

We had not camped or ridden here in all of the years we have been coming to the coastal dunes. We had a blast, very different terrain. Will be back!!

Pro: Campsite spacing is mostly good. Toilets excellent. We like campsites without electricity, water and sewer - generally makes for a more diverse and interesting group of fellow campers.
Con: A better explanation of same day reservations is needed. Fortunately, another camper helped us out. In the case of Siltcoos, there needs to be a map showing where cell reception is best.

There's literally no information on how to actually get to these campsites. Asked multiple people (including rangers) and nobody seemed to know what we were talking about. Total waste of time/money.

From Florence, Oregon, travel about 7 miles south on Highway 101 to the Siltcoos Beach Access Road. Turn right (west) onto the Siltcoos Beach Access Road and proceed 1.3 miles to the Driftwood II Campground entrance. Turn right onto the access road and continue straight to reach the sand (do not turn into the campground).
Off-road vehicle trails can also be accessed from the Siltcoos Beach staging area, which is another 0.3 miles further west on the Siltcoos Beach Access Road.
Siltcoos Sand Camping is accessible via Highway 101, which is approximately 7 miles to the north in Florence, Oregon.

General
- Notice to all Dune Riders! The Oregon dunes have the highest off-highway vehicle incident rates in the state. Before riding, please be aware of dune riding hazards and what you and others can do to stay safe. Here are some dune riding safety tips along with some general riding tips that can help redu ce incidents. Oregon ATV Program information can be found at www.OregonOHV.org.
- Guidelines for a safe visit to the Siuslaw National Forest The Siuslaw’s campgrounds, day use areas, and trails continue to be open for public enjoyment. While you are visiting the Forest, please adhere to the following guidelines. These guidelines will help ensure a safe and healthy visit for you and your family, our employees and volunteers, and other visitors: Please keep in mind that restrooms are generally cleaned and disinfected at least once daily at the more popular campgrounds and day use sites, and once to three times a week at other sites. Be prepared to provide your own soap, sanitizer, or disinfectant. If no trash receptacle is provided, please protect your public lands by packing out your waste and trash. - Forest Service-operated campsites on the Siuslaw National Forest are currently available by online reservation only. Visitors can make reservations online through this website (preferred), or via phone by calling the recreation.gov phone line at 877-444-6777. If you call this number, please be prepared for longer-than-usual wait times. Please note that the Siuslaw National Forest does not have any control over the recreation.gov phone line, so we ask you to please prepare by making reservations well in advance.
- Access is by 4X4 on soft sand only
- Camp only within designated sites and within 150 feet of the site marker
- No drinking water, restrooms, or fire rings; please bring all necessary equipment including water, portable toilets, and fire pans
- Please bring garbage bags; this is a 'pack it in, pack it out' facility
- Alcohol is prohibited
- State of Oregon OHV permit required for off-road vehicle use
- All motorized vehicles on sand must adhere to Oregon OHV regulations; click here for information
- Sites must occupied within first 24 hours of arrival time. Otherwise unoccupied sites will be considered a "no-show" and will be released.

- Don't Move Firewood: Please protect Pacific Northwest forests by preventing the spread of invasive species. Firewood can carry insects and diseases that can threaten the health of our western forests. You can make a difference by obtaining and burning your firewood near your camping destination. - Snowy plovers, a threatened species of small coastal bird, has a designated nesting habitat on Siltcoos Beach. Beach access in nesting area restricted during Snowy Plover nesting season (March 15-September 15). The USFS coordinates with Oregon State Parks and beach goers to protect these threatened birds during a very sensitive time.
- There is a 14-day in 30 rolling days camping limit on the Siuslaw National Forest. The 14 days does not have to be consecutive. The 14-day limit covers the entire Siuslaw National Forest and not just this campground as shown in the Rules Section. This means you cannot go to other campgrounds on the Siuslaw National Forest after reaching the 14-day limit.
