About Wild Mare Horse Camp

Wild Mare Horse Campground is located along the central Oregon coast, 22 miles south of Reedsport and 2 miles north of North Bend. Horse campers come here to explore the Wild Mare Horse Trail and take in captivating views of Oregon's Pacific Coast, which is just a half mile from the campground.  Horse campgrounds have been designed to accommodate people who need to corral their horses. We have a limited number of these kinds of campgrounds and ask, out of courtesy and safety for you and the horses, to consider camping in a different campground if you do not have a horse.

What Guests Are Saying

Wild Mare Horse Camp has a lovely location and benefits from restrictions on ATVs, which helps create a more peaceful environment for horse enthusiasts. However, cleanliness issues, particularly with bathrooms and stalls, and the presence of non-horse campers detract from the experience. Additionally, mosquito problems and noise from dogs can impact visitors' enjoyment, but many express a desire to return despite these challenges.

Wild mare horse camp was a lovely small campground near the ocean. The sites were spacious, the bathroom very clean and the camp host was very helpful.

Fantastic place to ride for a couple of days, easy beach access and great off beach "scrub" riding.

The campground is nice. When you make your reservation online be very careful because it is confusing and you may not end up reserving as many nights as you believe you did, this happened to atleast 4 groups including myself and the park rangers don't care they will refer you to the reservation company that really doesn't care that their reservation system sucks. Also be prepared to camp with the homeless campers who are allowed to camp here even though they don't have horses, this campground is supposedly reserved for people with horses but again camp rangers will not enforce this I personally feel a group of horse people should go and camp in the normal campground with their horses to make a statement.

My grandchildren and I had a wonderful experience with plenty of quiet time. The park hosts were friendly and very helpful. I am thankful to have places such as this one to spend time with family outdoors.

Our group really enjoyed this camp site! I've rated it at a 4 out of 5 because of its close proximity to the ohv sand dunes and the amount of noise that comes with being so close. There are also many positives about the campground. The sandy trails were so fun to explore. The vaulted toilets were well cared for, the campsite were clean and the hosts Brenda & Annie were so good about explaining the rules and checking up on the campground.

Campground was well kept. I didn't realize we booked it on an "ATV takeover" weekend so lots of dune-buggy noise from the other campgrounds nearby but that didn't really bother us. We didn't have horses so I can't speak to that aspect but the bathrooms were clean/stocked, the camp hosts came around twice, and the sites are large enough and spread out that we weren't bothered by our neighbors. The beach is a short walk up the road or I believe accessible by a horse trail that we didn't attempt.

Only real complaint about this place is the mosquitos which were large, persistent, and plentiful. Definitely bring some heavy-duty bug spray and anticipate being swarmed. We stayed in late June. Patchy cell service; drinking water on site. Overall, good experience.
