About Wild Mare Horse Camp

Wild Mare Horse Campground is located along the central Oregon coast, 22 miles south of Reedsport and 2 miles north of North Bend. Horse campers come here to explore the Wild Mare Horse Trail and take in captivating views of Oregon's Pacific Coast, which is just a half mile from the campground.  Horse campgrounds have been designed to accommodate people who need to corral their horses. We have a limited number of these kinds of campgrounds and ask, out of courtesy and safety for you and the horses, to consider camping in a different campground if you do not have a horse.

What Guests Are Saying

Wild Mare Horse Camp has a lovely location and benefits from restrictions on ATVs, which helps create a more peaceful environment for horse enthusiasts. However, cleanliness issues, particularly with bathrooms and stalls, and the presence of non-horse campers detract from the experience. Additionally, mosquito problems and noise from dogs can impact visitors' enjoyment, but many express a desire to return despite these challenges.

Wild Mare is a great place to camp. Cell service is better in some direction than others. Unless it is raining or the wind is blowing expect mosquitoes.

Wild Mare is a very peaceful part of the dunes. Due to its proximity to the lake the mosquitoes can be a nuisance, so bring bug spray.

We had a great time! However, it was unusual to have neighbors as campers without horses and no one enforced that rule. Bathrooms almost ran out of toilet paper in the women’s restroom and it wasnt cleaned daily like a state park. Other than that we enjoyed our stay. The wooden pens could use an upgrade to panels though.

This has been my favorite place for many years but unfortunately the number of people who have no other place to go have started to cruise thru looking and or checking to see if anyone is in camp has really increased...with no camp host things tend to disappear when everyone is out riding. I am now bringing non riders along just so I don't lose things out of my campsight. The ride is still fantastic and the trails are well maintained.

We stayed at both Horsfall beach & Wild Mare. We spent weekend nights at Wild Mare to avoid the OHV noise at the beach. Nice camp in the trees, with corrals for those with horses. Not sure how horse trailers and campers with TVs fit in here though. The sites are large, parking pads, smallish. We have a 22 ft. Class B camper and it came close to filling site 5. Nice trail out to the ocean, right from camp, across the dunes. We also enjoyed hiking the BlueBill trail up the road, & hiking in the Sandtracks picnic area. BlueBill campground looked very nice, but it was closed when we were there.(For the season, or COVID? Not sure.)

It had been 17 years since I had been back to Wild Mare. Many things have changed in Horsefall Rec area but the area is still beautiful. Wild Mare is quiet and visitors are friendly. I will be making an annual reservation and return yearly.

There are several sites that haven’t gotten the new stock panels. There isn’t a honor wheel barrel on site. You’re not allowed to connect garden hoses to the water faucets, so if your health challenged, packing water to your horses can be an issue

Nice clean camp, easy to drive to and back in. paved driveway. Nice corrals. Easy access to beach. Just wish their were more actual marked trails for horses. I got lost in the dunes trying to follow flagging and ended up on the highway. I rode along the highway over Horsfall lake and then followed a trail back off the highway. The trail ended up leading to a disc golf course. Again unmarked. I managed to find my way back to camp. Loved the weather in the middle of summer! Nice and cool! Very nice camp hosts. Did not like that non-equestrians were allowed in the camps with corrals. A homeless couple were in the camp next to me and then said it was their "second home". Apparently, their first home is another campsite. There were nice though.
