South Shore

Campground declining each year we go. The road needs paving. The bathrooms need cleaning more frequently. Many reserved sites were not occupied. Reservation system need a serious upgrade, the good old days were better as first come first serve.

Beautiful lake and setting with spacious sites. Vault toilet was a bit stinky when one was down wind. And road is full of potholes and needs tree trimming. Difficult for my 36 ft trailer to turn around.

We have camped at South Shore for several years. Unfortunately the past couple of years the bathrooms are horribly maintained. They are filled with flies and at one point pretty early in the day ran out of toilet paper. Also there was a water spigot that I swear had been running heavily without stopping since last year when we visited. I love how big the sites are and access to the lake is easy no matter where you stay but overall campground could use some upkeep.

Disappointed that the trash had not been emptied apparently for three weeks. It was overflowing and people had bags in front of the trash bin. We know the trash trucks came while we were there and emptied the other trash bin, but didn’t come down to the end of the campground.

Complete mess. Allen-Booz (campsite vendor) needs to get it together! The campground was great (ended up at Link Creek). The reservation system is COMPLETELY messed up. I reserved two sites for a group a month in advance, a Thursday, because the rest of the weekend was only available FF. Then checked back a week from our trip and they had opened it up to reservations and the sites were gone. Ended up moving to Link Creek FF sites for our group the day before our trip, required me to go a day early to the campsite, etc, etc. The entire thing was much worse than described here, I won't go into it, but i couldn't get a confirmed site at link creek in time to cancel south shore sites and ended up eating those charges. When I went to South Shore my name wasn't even on the reservation so I wasn't even sure I had one of my reservations there.

We parked a tent trailer at campsite #10. Driving up, it looked like there might not be a good, level area because the entry slopes upward from the road. But once we were into the spot, it was great! Good shade and access to the lakeshore as well. Only downside was that there were limited options to put up a hammock. The trees were mostly too close together or too far apart!

One major gripe about South Shore campground at Suttle Lake.

The roads are trash! Potholes galore, feeble patching attempts. Taking a nice trailer in there is getting hazardous, with the potholes the trailer is bouncing about, stuff inside flying everywhere. As this is a federal site, being a disabled veteran makes me wonder where my federal tax dollars are being used, as it's sure NOT keeping the campground roads in decent shape.

Otherwise, we love camping at South Shore, have done so now for almost 50 years. Getting harder every year to actually GET a spot with all the new campers from the valley and CA now wanting this campground. It would be a much better experience if the roads were maintained properly in spite of the negatives.

Very beautiful campsite, well maintained. The bathroom closest to us though did run out of toilet paper 1.5 days before leaving good thing we had some and wipes. Overall restrooms were clean. Good swimming spots along the hiking trail.
Take a propane fire pit, we were the only ones that took propane fire pit those nights lol and camp fires were banned. Overall great experience my kids loved it. Will def go next year if possible.
