We go to Hawe Creek every year for spring break with the grans. This is a great campground on a great lake. We fish and just have lots of fun.

First Trip out with the new camper, Viking Saga 14RS. Loren, Myself and Sadie Mae (Little Dog) stayed for a 4 day Easter Weekend visit. Weather was perfect, in the 70's w/o Rain. Nice breeze off the lake, every site seems to be on the water, we stayed at 27 and loved it. Lots of firewood (Downed) but still early in the camping season, that will most likely clear. Saturday night had a visit from a racoon while we slept, they didn't score much but some leftover dog food. Trash was safely locked up, just left behind some foot prints. The campground crew was spectacular and nice, checked in once or twice. Campground facilities where nice and placed well. Neighbors in tents and campers, little fishing off the shore. Great space in between sites. We will be back. .... 5 Star Visit for sure.

Campsite was good. Only problem with this section of campsites is the power. It is under powered for some of the campers that visit. It needs to be a 50/30/20 amp electrical boxes. No only is it under powered, the existing boxes have very loose receptacles as they are not well maintained. One site could not be used because of a no power problem so it stayed vacant. This is the off season so get them replaced with the proper power requirements.

We camped for the first time at Hawe Creek in September. It is now our favorite local (within 50 miles of home) campground. It feels remote even though it's not, and is really beautiful. It's also close to stores and places to eat, which is nice when you're arriving late and want to grab something to eat before setting up camp. The bathhouses are nice and clean, with showers and flushing toilets. We tent camp and are used to primitive campgrounds but it is always nice to have on-site water and electric as we did here. Most of the sites are really big and fairly private. There are some pull through sites too. We were at #34 which was very private and quiet. We could hear our closest neighbors but it was not intrusive at all. #34 is also the closest site to the bathhouse on that loop, but it's still a short walk to get there :) Hawe Creek seems to be a favorite with fisherman and kayakers (made me wish I had a kayak), but the water traffic was low until the weekend, when it picked up some in the morning.
The Harvest Moon was at full when we were there, and thanks to some great weather we could sit by our campfire and watch the moon rise over Hawe Creek. It was just the most peaceful and beautiful evening. My husband parked his boat by the site and fished, and we went for a ride up toward where Hawe Creek enters the backwater of the lake. Except for a few kayakers we had the place to ourselves, and saw lots of birds - a heron, a big hawk, lots of crows and others. Great for photography, and even though the campground is now closed for the season, I want to go back (accessible from the Dorn Fishing Facility) when the fall colors are at peak.
We had a really good experience camping at Hawe Creek and can't wait to go back when it opens next spring!

We always enjoy our stays at Hawe Creek. Small, quiet and clean. Close to the little town of McCormick that has shops and stores for what you may need. Ice kiosk for $2. Library and antiques. Lots of history.

Got set up and had to leave the next early a.m. to go to Prompt Care for an Emergency then was sent to my home for recuperation. My husband went and brought our camper back home. I telephoned and asked for a refund on remaining days but was denied. SHAME, SHAME. We didn't get to stay.................... Frances Steed Aycock
