About Woods Ferry Campground (SC)

The Woods Ferry Recreation Area is situated in the piedmont of South Carolina along the east bank of the Broad River with elevation averaging around 350 feet and is approximately 40 miles southwest of Rock Hill and 57 miles southeast of Spartanburg. The surrounding area is the rolling hills of upland pine and maturing hardwood forests. It offers a wonderful change is scenery from the area’s typical pine forests. The highlight of the area is the Broad River corridor. The many variety of hardwood trees create an umbrella with their leaves in the summer, keeping you cool during your trail ride or hike. Thatches of pine are mingled in and the sun shines through them providing you warmth in the winter. Wander on the Woods Ferry Horse Trail and you’ll see wild azaleas clumped by the old homesites and dogwoods are scattered through-out the forest. Inhale fragrance of the honeysuckle in these peaceful surroundings.  The forest and river environment draw a variety of wildlife to the area. Wasn’t able to ride my horse due to an injury so decided to sit by the river and read while others rode. Beautiful setting and very peaceful.

Great primitive camping. Sites are not on top of each other so you fee like you have some privacy. The vault toilets were clean. Had really nice pipe corrals to keep the horses in. The trails are beautiful and the picnic area is right along side a river under shady trees. Great place to bring your horse and ride 25 miles of trails.

Camps for horse riders should be separate from the hikers and hunters, as the horses and smells and noises are in close proximity to the other campers that don't ride horses.
We had to leave our campsite to find quiet and get away from the smells that winds carried over from the horse stalls across from us. It was an overnight stay, but we left early.

It was a fairly nice campground. It was secluded and quiet. The ground could have been a little more level but not too bad. I liked the hiking trail just behind the campsite.
