About Woods Ferry Campground (SC)

The rolling hills of Enoree Ranger District in Chester County are home to the Woods Ferry Recreation Area which includes the Woods Ferry Campground, Woods Ferry Picnic Area, Woods Ferry Boat Ramp. The Woods Ferry Recreation Area is situated in the piedmont of South Carolina along the east bank of the Broad River with elevation averaging around 350 feet and is approximately 40 miles southwest of Rock Hill and 57 miles southeast of Spartanburg. The surrounding area is the rolling hills of upland pine and maturing hardwood forests. It offers a wonderful change is scenery from the area’s typical pine forests. The highlight of the area is the Broad River corridor. The many variety of hardwood trees create an umbrella with their leaves in the summer, keeping you cool during your trail ride or hike. Thatches of pine are mingled in and the sun shines through them providing you warmth in the winter. Wander on the Woods Ferry Horse Trail and you’ll see wild azaleas clumped by the old homesites and dogwoods are scattered through-out the forest. Inhale fragrance of the honeysuckle in these peaceful surroundings.  The forest and river environment draw a variety of wildlife to the area. Nice wooded site deep in the forest. The road in is in bad shape, but it is not a problem for a Class A if you go slow.

I’ve been 4-5 times over the years. It is the perfect place for camp/hunting in the National Forest. Still my concerns are the same. The campsites need to be blown out after each horse use. Seems like every visit, the site has horse manure in the camping area, wet straw, and enough leaves that makes it difficult to set up camp. My site, 17 was extremely unleveled and after moving three times, I gave up. A better job of campsite maintenance is desperately needed. Got in a great Mt. Bike ride on the gravel roads and trails.

When we pulled into the campground, after a very long drive in, we filled with water. When we got to our campsite, the firepit was filled with liter. There were some freshly cut trees, so we figured the workers had left their water bottles etc. We cleaned out the trash. It was so hot and something was wrong with our generator, as it couldn't keep up to keep the camper cool. We stayed the night, cancelled the rest of our reservation (3 more days) We moved on, only to find our ankles bit up by no see ums! Ouch!

We looked forward to camping and especially riding at Woods Ferry. Upon our arrival, drive to our assigned site, #12. The corrals were a muddy mess. Thought we would look for another site and drove to the end of the loop. Unable to make the sharp turn to go around the loop again. Ended up parking in a permanent site, #2 in hopes no one would be using the site.
Those corrals were also muddy but no quite as bad.
We did see a Ranger who was very cordial. Bathroom facility was clean.
We didn't get to ride as it rained all night and the next day.
Look forward to coming back in better weather and checked out more desirable sites.

Campsites are set up nicely in the trees. For a primitive situation it is very nice.
While we were there the campground was full with happy campers. Water spigots are shared. It would be beneficial to the park and campers if power/water was there at each site.

Loved the campground and the trails were wonderful! Corrals a little small and sides definitely too low for all but ponies. Campsites very clean, bathrooms very clean
