Last weekend we camped at Lock A in Ashland City, TN, a Corps of Engineers (COE) campground. It’s only about 30 minutes from our house, so it’s definitely one that we keep in mind for a quick getaway. There are 45 campsites, including 6 tent-only sites. The sites have electric and water hookups, but there is no sewer. They do have a dump station.
The campground sits right along Cheatham Lake, part of the Cumberland River system, and it’s beautiful and very well maintained. There’s a bathhouse, playground, sand volleyball court, basketball court, and picnic shelter right in the campground. The surrounding area also has several other playgrounds, picnic tables and grills, a sand swimming beach, volleyball, and additional public restrooms.
We took our e-bikes and really enjoyed the ride! There’s a nice, flat, straight 5-mile round trip from the campground to an area past the lock and dam. 🚲 It was an easy and scenic ride.
Overall, Lock A is a beautiful, convenient little campground with plenty to do, especially if you enjoy being outdoors. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

Loved everything about this campground, with the exception of the road leading to it! We have a 38’ class c and it was a white knuckle ride. Take it slow and easy and you’ll be fine.

As a somewhat newby to campgrounds the attendant was most helpful is showing me my campsite and where the facilities were. Hoorah for the Corp of Engineers. Very nice neighbors as well

The campground was very clean, the campground hosts were very helpful, the only worrisome thing was the pecan trees which apparently suffered during an icestorm, and were dropping branches that weren't rotten but had been weakened by the storm, very nice picnic areas and beach down the road to the lock and dam

Beautiful park. Excellent hosts. Level sites. Great place for biking. No FHU, but good power, water, and dump station. Beware of falling pecans. A large limb fell on our RV. I was forewarned in the park info. Thankfully, we had no damage. I plan to camp in this park again.

From Ashland City, Tennessee, take US 12 and go eight miles west to Cheap Hill. Turn
left on Cheatham Dam Road traveling west four miles. Turn left into
the campground.

The campground is accessible via US Highway 12, located approximately eight miles east of the campground.

General
- Please be aware that falling branches are a natural hazard at this campground
- Motorized, including electric vehicles: Golf carts, Scooters & ATV’s are permitted on roadways in Corps operated recreation areas. However, these type of vehicles shall be operated in accordance with applicable Federal, state and local laws, which shall be regulated by authorized enforcement officials. Must be 16 years or older to drive motorized vehicle. Prohibited items include: battery operated scooters/cars, hover-boards, non compliant golf carts and ATV's.
- Don't Move Firewood: Protect your forests from tree-killing pests by buying your firewood locally and burning it on-site. Visit Dontmovefirewood.org for further information.
- However, if you're arrving late, we highly recommend you call the campground to notify the Park Attendant. If arrival does not occur before check-out time on the day following the arrival date, the reservation will be canceled.
- Two tents or one tent and one RV are permitted per campsite.
- Lock A campground has reservable sites only. No walk-up sites.
