Abram's Creek Campground

Waste of time. Says it's in SMNP, but it's at least 90 minutes away. Sites are small, on top of each other, and impossible to determine- especially sites 1-4. Bathroom is spooky and open to the wildlife (snakes, rats, skunks etc.).

The campground itself is pretty nice. The creek is clear and beautiful. The campsites are close together but were never fully occupied. You don't have to deal with RVs or early morning garbage trucks like the bigger campgrounds. A ranger emptied the trash by hand every morning. The skies are dark and stars easy to see.

However, this campground is pretty remote and it feels like it. The final road into the site is a one-lane road with few places to pull over for oncoming traffic. A couple of trips had a tree limb over the road that needed to be moved. On one occasion, dogs from a nearby house were on the road. If you need something, you're looking at a 30 minute trip to Maryville on winding (but well maintained) roads. Going to other parts of the park required a twisty road climb to Look Rock to get to the Foothills Parkway. We never saw the ranger station occupied, and there was no way to check in and record what site we were staying at.

We only had the pleasure to camp here for two days. We loved the campsite and wanted to stay longer but there were not more spots available. We stayed on site number 1 and it was great . Very spacious and with the creek right there. We didn’t have a host and there is not a place to buy wood so buy it before. Drinking and potable water available at site and also flushable toilets.

Abram’s Creek Campground was beautiful and peaceful. The sound of the rushing river made it feel like we were alone even with other campers on either side of us. I would recommend bringing in (certified) firewood on your way in, the closest place to get wood is quite the drive and wasn’t great quality. Really, I would recommend bringing everything you need on the first pass in. “Going into town” to grab something you may have forgotten entails windy one-lane roads and at least half an hour. Same goes for phone service. If you want a semi-remote front country campsite that really makes you feel like you’re in the woods, this is a great place!!

This is a great campground! We stayed for four nights and it was beautiful and peaceful. The bathrooms were clean and water was close by, there was even a sink to wash your dishes. The nearby trails were nice, nothing crazy but a good day hike and it was great being so close to the river. However, no cell service which was expected but the camp was super far from everything else which we didn't realize.

Overall a quiet place with clean restrooms. Enjoyed the sound of the creek and that it’s away from the more crowded campgrounds. Seems well maintained. One thing I would keep an eye out for if you decide to hike the Abrams Creek Trail is to keep an eye out for tics! We only hiked about 2 miles in then decided to turn around and come back. (Since the scenery is the same) Found 2 tics on each of us, and when getting back to the campsite found one on my stomach. This was with layers and consciously checking and only staying on the trail. Other than that little scare, we really enjoyed our experience.

Excellent site right on the water. Tent pads are level and the driveways are suitable for a single car. Everyone at the site was quiet and kept to themselves. It was a very nice experience that I would do again.

The camp site is so clean!
