About Rio Grande Village (big Bend, TX)

The Rio Grande Village Campground sits near the banks of the Rio Grande, the International Boundary between the United States and Mexico. It is one of the most popular campgrounds in Big Bend National Park, especially for those traveling in large recreational vehicles. It is located close to Boquillas Canyon and Hot Springs, and serves as a launch point for visitors accessing the river or the endless miles of backcountry roads. Rio Grande Village has an outstanding view of the Sierra del Carmen Mountains, located in Mexico to the east, which light up with hues of red and orange during sunset.

This is a great campsite with attentive staff and nice restrooms. There were enough trees for shade and a nice little nature walk with a great view right next to the camp.

We only stayed one night tent camping but wish we had planned for more. The camp hosts were very helpful and loaned me a hammer to get my tent stakes in. Wonderful to hear all the birds and coyotes.bathroom facilities were nice and had an electrical outlet so I could make morning coffee.

The camp ground regulations seem to be rather capricious and arbitrary. There are campsites next to each other where one site is allowed generators while the other is not. There are other requirements that are just about as silly.

Stayed at Rio Grand Village for two nights. Had to stay in two different sites due to availability in getting consecutive nights in the same spot. For us it's no big deal with a truck camper moving is quick and easy. Both sites were clean and neat upon our arrival. Bathrooms were neat and clean as well. The camps host visited our site and informed us of a dark sky event at Panther Junction which we were unaware, so hats off to them! All in lovely as we were very impressed with Big Bend in general, the camp hosts and staff at Panther Junction. Plus the many hiking trails availalbe to us. Oh should mention, there is no cell or wifi service in the campground, thank you for eliminating that annoyance, enjoy the dark sky!

Great campground, friendly manager and the no-generator loop had a nice amount of privacy from the rest of the campground which was also appreciated.

We were in site #7 mid February and it was fine for our 22' camper and truck. The shelters are nice because there is no shade. Sticker grass everywhere even though the grass is irrigated. Nice hiking within the camp and recommend the Ranger led hike.

It is sad that the only store available for Miles does not have anything practical, specifically mentioning drinks. It’s almost like a genz in a board room in New York City chose what they like to drink at Starbucks. Need to have practical water for people who are actually on the road and some decent things to drink.

We booked 5 days here and were worried it was too long, but not at all, we could have stayed longer. Big Bend NP exceeded my expectations and we just scratched the surface. From hikes to the extensive River Road drive to amazing geological wonders, and cool birds, we hope to return.

Use of generators are abused. Also people going to the restrooms and letting their vehicles motor run. Lots of noise for people in tents or like us small autonomous RV.
