I can’t say enough about this place to even come close to how great it was camping at Chisos Basin Campground for four nights. Got to my spot and saw a post with my name on it. Everyone is quiet early and up early to hit the trails. Cetrally located to every place I wanted to see. Will most definitely return to catch what isn’t widely known like the South Rim Trail. I hope it stays just as it is forever.

Regarding site 57, No shade shelter, quiet and scenic location, steep gravely incline leading from parking spot to tent area, close walk to water spigot and dish/bathrooms. Be prepared for possible windy conditions. Bring sturdy tent stakes due to rocky/gravel ground. Close to the Windows trailhead ( walkable) and close to Chiso Basin visitor center/trailheads to mountain hikes. Best centrally located campground within Big Bend NP.

Chisos Basin was a very nice experience. We were lucky to get a good shaded spot (some people were not). It was hot weather that week, but Chisos was much better than Cottonwood or Rio Grande Village. Close to the Window trail, which was lovely, as long as you wake up early enough to avoid extreme sun in late morning or mid day.

The Chisos Basin Campground was fantastic. We booked site #50 and it had a water spigot right next to the campsite. The bathrooms were a short walk away, which included a dish washing station for easy cleaning of cooking utensils. The ground itself was pretty rocky, so I'd be sure to bring a sleeping pad or air mattress if you pick this spot. Also some heavy duty tent stakes to push through the rocky soil. Heat was a little more than we expected so plan accordingly for weather fluctuations. Great big dark skies capped off our evening with a bang. Will be back once the renovations are complete!

Great views, peaceful experience. I wish the sites were a little more level, but otherwise it’s perfect.
