Chisos Basin Campground (Big Bend, TX)

Absolutely stunning views, well kept trails and helpful rangers. We look forward to going back to Big Bend in the fall for the longer hikes.

In a word, awesome! Incredible views. Drinking water throughout, bathrooms are close by, level sites. Be aware of the following; some sites do not have a shade structure, if you are staying for several days the closest showers are at the Rio Grande Village camping area. Our camp site host George, a volunteer, was an excellent source of information.

What a cool place in Big Bend NP! Camping here was well worth the effort. Hiking was excellent and had me sleeping like a baby under the stars.

Beautiful campground. Campsite 26 is great for a small trailer but not for a tent. The camp host is phenomenal; he really cares about his campers.

Big Bend exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, it was clear this park runs on people who genuinely love where they work — the staff weren’t just helpful, they were walking encyclopedias of the park, sharing insider tips on trails, timing, and hidden spots we never would have found on our own.

A special shoutout to Allen and his wife, who we had the pleasure of meeting during our stay. Their warmth and infectious enthusiasm for Big Bend made us fall even more in love with the place — the kind of hospitality that turns a great trip into a memorable one. You could tell they weren’t just doing a job; they genuinely wanted us to experience the park the way they see it.

And don’t sleep on the food truck — after a long day of hiking, it hit exactly right. Simple, delicious, and a perfect way to refuel before heading back out to chase the next sunset.

Big Bend isn’t just a park, it’s an experience. Between the dark skies, the trails, and the people who make it all come together, we’re already planning our next trip back.

Beautiful area campsites are pretty close together

Overall it was a great experience. We were able to stargaze and sleep comfortably in our camp ground. Also, we would like to add that we got to see a small bear during our south rim loop trail hike. Very recommended!

Super beautiful! Campsites are a little more on the primitive side, no showers but the bathrooms were clean, the park rangers were very friendly and we appreciate the provided bear box. We got a Campsites with a sheltered area which was nice also. Big bend is definitely underrated and I highly recommend a visit!!

George one of the hosts was immediately welcoming and we learned in not too short of a time we have a connection in my small hometown in PA. The camp was clean and very well run.
