It was the perfect central location in the park. We had access to water for drinking, flushing toilets and a sink to wash dishes. The quality of the table and shade structure was amazing and the amount of trees and shrubs around the site was the icing on top. From our site we had beautiful views and were in walking distance from a popular trailhead and the visitor center. We went at a very busy busy time but really had no issues with traffic since they waved us through the line to get to the chisos area since we had a camp site. Overall it was fantastic and I cannot wait to go back.

We love staying here it’s quiet and beautiful. I just really wish they would have showers even if they are coin operated! Wish spots were not so close to each other .

Beautiful setting, decent campsites, could use better bathroom facilities (we’ll see how the 2 year construction project goes).

We had a great time in Big Bend. The Chisos Basin campground is great and the Santa Elena canyon was amazing!

TENT campers BEWARE of Site 26 on Loop 2.
We got to this site to find there was literally no where we could set up our (small 2 person backpacking ) tent save for on the asphalt in front of or behind our vehicle.
Site 26 appears to be laid out for vehicle camping as there's a stretch of asphalt parallel to the covered picnic table and bench set on a concrete slab but literally not even a patch of dirt to set a tent down on.
As we looked for a spot, we were aware other sites around it had adequate space ( some even big enough to accommodate multiple tents) but, unfortunately, not the one we'd reserved (Site 26).
When we looked back at the site details on reservation website 26 is definitely not tagged for "vehicle camping only" (in fact, it's "standard" and accommodates 8 people max! I guess this falls under the more general disclaimer for this campground of sites being "small, rocky and not level" ???
Other than this unfortunate glitch in our site experience, the Chisos basin area is beautiful!

Great location, beautiful, nice trails, we had an excellent location, beautiful views, flat parking. We did see many spots that would not be very nice to stay in. Ours was great.
