This site was perfect for our camper van. You do just park on the side of the road, but it was level. Great views. The campground hosts were very friendly and helpful.

Great location with incredible wrap-around views of the Chisos Mountains. Some sites are much better than others, in terms of size, shade, cooking, etc.

Love Chisos Basin!!
The campground and Big Bend is absolutely beautiful!! The hiking in big bend is fantastic!! Some of the best hikes are Lost Mine, Emory Peak, South Rim, Pine Canyon, Chimneys and Santa Elena. We love it so much here we have been making annual trips here for the past 5 years!!

Beautiful campground with great mountain views. Clean bathrooms with potable water. Generally quiet and dark by 8pm. Full moon and star views were great. Our campsite 021 was slightly elevated and got a little windy at night, but it was surprisingly private and it’s one of the few sites with a dedicated parking spot.

Just an incredible experience. Campsite #30 is legendary. The whole campsite being right in the middle of the Chisos is magical but campsite #30 stands above many. Several spots are just in the open with relatively little or no privacy. This is a little oasis tucked in a corner that provides you with shade under a big tree and a wonderful spot to set up camp. Loved our time there!

As with our stay at Rio Grand Village, everything was just fine. Neat, clean and in order. We very much enjoyed the access to the variety trailheads close to the campground, we hiked them all! Only disappointment, and somewhat minor was our spot Loop 1 site 005. The site details in the reservation system said the site was narrow, which we were fine with since we have a single real wheel truck camper, so we fit almost anywhere. What we didn't realize nor could tell from the pics, is the site is a roadside shoulder site. You are parked half on the road and half on the shoulder. Not a biggie for us but things for others to consider, no way would a trailer fit in this site and nowhere to part the tow vehicle. Also this site has no place to pitch a tent. It does have a covered table down a small embankment which was fine. Our stay was very nice we enjoyed the campground and would certainly stay again but not in 005.

Campsite was very small and rocky, with no shade or shelter from wind (it was very windy overnight). Facilities were very dated and overused. The basin itself is beautiful, and this site had easy access to the Window Trail (significantly shorter distance and less elevation than hiking from the lodge).
