What Guests Are Saying
Double Lake Recreation Area is a beautiful and clean park set in a tranquil wooded environment, ideal for hiking and biking. Campers appreciate the friendly and helpful hosts, well-maintained sites, and clean restrooms. While some facilities need updates and there's limited fishing due to lily pads, the overall experience is positive, making it a popular getaway spot close to Houston.

Great mountain bike trails. Showers out of order at one bath house in the electric area. Bathrooms were kept clean. No hand soap in bathrooms (bring your own).

Had a reservation, but there appears to be a lot of first come, first served sites. Cash only, honor system. We had full hook up on a pull through site.. bath house is clean and well maintained as is the rest of the campground. Fishing, Bike, and hiking trails run throughout the campgroung and National forest. This is our second stay. Will definitely stay again when we come this way.

This was a beautiful place to stay for the weekend. The facilities and walking trails were excellent and well maintained. One note - when we visited the weekend of October 21, the lake was pretty far down, so not particularly good for fishing or scenic views.

I booked into my favorite lakeside site, but on arrival the lake was way down and my site was no longer "on the water". There was a better site a little further down, and the camp host helped me get booked into the better site. When I got moved he discovered the water tap wasn't working and was out there fixing it before I ever realized there was a problem.
This is my favorite local campground, I come here a lot; being retired, I come during the week. It's always quiet and serene and shady, although I heard over the weekend they were inundated with Cub Scouts! The camp host is ALWAYS around and ready to help. The Core of Engineers does a much better job of managing their campgrounds than the Texas state park folks do.

It’s a campsite. Has a tent pad, a fire circle, and a hanger for trash. Nice and semi-secluded.
