If you visit this campground, don't expect to have a pleasant experience using the restrooms or the showers. My wife and I stayed here over the memorial day weekend of 2022, and this aspect did not meet our expectations AT ALL! Only one of the restroom facilities had working toilets with all the rest having portable toilets (Who wants to use those in 100° Texas summer heat?!). The women's side of the shower facility nearest our campsite had the plumbing completely ripped out (assumed vandalism), and the men's only had cold water. Another facility at the other end of the campground had both working toilets, however, the men's shower there didn't work at all, and the women's only had hot water with minimal privacy (It was a struggle for my wife to bathe and dress without being exposed). Additionally, a button had to be continuously held in order for the showerhead to function. Primarilly because of this, we left early.
Until USACE fixes these restroom/shower facilities, I cannot recommend this campground. At a minimum, they should inform the public on this website or wherever else necessary that the restroom/shower facilities are not functional, informing patrons before they make and pay for reservations.
Additionally, the firepits here are tiny and provide only the most minimal of functionality and safety. The firepits should be a bit larger with a ring to increase functionality and prevent accidental fires. Don't expect to do much beyond grill hotdogs.

This is a very nice lake. Be prepared to walk a good distance to fish if you’re not paying for a campsite. Overall enjoyable experience. We visit several times a year.

We arrived at gate at 3:45 pm and no one was there. We were told by someone who appeared to be living close to the gate (outside the park) that attendant would be back the next day and would bring our window tag out to us. We followed signs and found our camping spot. We never saw the attendant until we stopped again at the gate when we were leaving. I stopped and went to window to ask several questions concerning my park pass and location of the dump station. He was absolutely no help, telling me he had no knowledge and he was not allowed to inquire or to offer help, repeatedly saying "they don't let me do anything", advising me to go on line and find answers for myself. He appeared to be annoyed by my questions and was quite rude. Park conditions seemed fair. Grass had not been trimmed around electrical box and water faucet and excessive dog dropping that we had to clean up. We were at a total loss as to how to get rid of garbage. We were in a motor home so once we were set up, we could not drive around in search of a dumpster. We did find one on our way out, but it was not pleasant having to bring our garbage inside each night nor to haul it to the dumpster inside our motor home. A receptacle within walking distance would have seemed reasonable. Park was quite, but does not offer anything other than fishing that we could see.

As usual it was great! One thing I was dissapointed with was the lack of park rangers or gate attendant part of the week. Seems like tent campers were in abundance in the rv areas. I hadnt seen this in past years and we have been coming here nearly every year since the mid 80's.

Our site was a mess grass was so high our grand babies could not walk to water with out getting sticker burrs all over them. Wen asked for a weed eater or a mower so we can clean up area the staff was rude. Light under pavilion were out. We went to town to buy lights and weed eater to clean up our selves. Very bad experience there at promontory park
