About Dana Peak

Dana Peak Campground is located on a peninsula on the shoreline of Stillhouse Hollow Lake in central Texas. The lake offers a wide variety of recreation opportunities, including water sports, hiking, biking, horseback riding, picnicking, large group pavilions, hunting, fishing and more. The facility is one of only two reservable campgrounds on the lake and often fills up on weekends during summer. Stillhouse Hollow Lake was created by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with the construction of Stillhouse Hollow Dam in 1968. The 6,430-acre lake is located 16 miles upstream of the confluence of the Lampasas and Leon Rivers, which flow into the Little River.

This park has gone down hill since we started coming here four years ago. We loved the hosts the first two years. They were amazing. The hosts now are lazy, slow, unorganized, etc. We have had to bring our weed whip to cut the grass at the campsite. The last time we went the previous campers left a garbage bag that we had to clean up. Over memorial day weekend no one cleaned the bathroom for three days (no toilet paper, beer bottles, trash sitting in the same spot since Friday). Very disappointed.

Had a great time. Area was clean and attendant and park workers were always nice and helpful. One of the entry arms was not working which caused a slight delay getting in, but not a big deal.

We arrived on a Wednesday- the grass was at least a foot tall. There were a lot of cigarette butts all over along with small pieces of trash. On Friday the mowers came and one of them ran into our camper.

Trying to get in the gate, particularly on the weekends, was absurd. When we left the camp on the weekend for a little while it took 30 minutes to an hour to get back in through the gate due to the line of cars. They put in a Kiosk where a gate keypad used to be but you can't enter in the gate code which has made it extremely inefficient. Was a lot of grass in the pads around the picnic tables. The grass around the site was very high and needed to be cut and the grass around the utility connections was ridiculously high, at least two feet tall.

The park itself is in a nice area off of still house lake. How ever the gate attendants are rude and disrespectful. Not helpful at all. The “volunteers” are over bearing and rude. They are always acting like park rangers and park “police” constantly tell campers what to do and Interrupting our vacation. They should know the rules and follow their own rules. The bathrooms in may case were absolutely atrocious and unkept. The park was over grown and not mowed at all there were so many bugs. Campers had to weed wack their own sites because the mowers couldn’t be bothered to mow camp sites. Who ever is in charge or the park this year needs to be reprimanded and or fired and be told to get back on the ball. Hire new volunteers and better gate attendants and take time to train them for better customer service. This was my worst camping trip in the last 4 years that I’ve been coming to Dana peak. I hope for a better time next year but if these gate attendants and “volunteers” are still at Dana peak park I don’t think I will be staying there again. I’ll be making my reservations at Union Grove for my family camping and boating needs.

Showed up at tent only site to find after midnight a group of fishers set up next to me to have an evening of beer drinking , music and fun. Too bad for the other campers. Another night, showed up on my motorcycle to get knocked over by a large pitbull dog that the owners did not care to have on a leash. At 12:30 AM had to shout to wake them up to shut off their radio. In the morning, when the inconsiderate drunks got up, their other pitbull dog charged out of their tent and chased me into mine. That's when I lost my temper and let the rude drunks know that they were violating so many campground rules and their response was that is normal camping old man.

I love camping, I love Dana Peak Park, is one of my favorite place in the summer. But in this time I was disappointed with them. The Park and my site#7 was dirty, the grass was very overgrown, the restroom was dirty. I hope the next time my experience is not bad…
