Rocky Point at Wright Patman Dam is highly praised for its beautiful, well-maintained campgrounds, spacious sites, and friendly staff, creating a welcoming atmosphere for families and campers. Visitors appreciate the scenic views of the lake, clean facilities, and family-friendly amenities like playgrounds. We have been visiting Rocky Point for many years and have always previously had a wonderful experience and recommended it to all of our friends. It has always been a pristinely kept campground. When we got there, the grass was knee deep and looked as if it had not been mowed for a month. I am highly allergic to insect bites and felt as if I could not get off the concrete. My husband had to do all the walking of our small dog because I was afraid to walk in the knee deep grass. The man in the office of the campground told us that he had no control over the grass and didn't know when it would be mowed. The men's bathroom in D loop needed attention. I called the district Core of Engineers office and left a message for Bill Smith who called me back the next day. He said that a private contractor mowed and that the park had lost it's spot in the mowing cycle because of rain and that the park should be mowed by Thursday. To begin with, if it rains on your day to have the park mowed, the schedule should be redone and everyone moved forward a day instead of having to wait weeks to get it mowed. We came on Sunday afternoon, July 23 and left on the following Friday morning. Our section was mowed about 4:00 on Thursday afternoon which meant that we dealt with the high grass 90 percent of our trip. The park needs to do a better job of getting the grass mowed or move to a contractor who can take care of it in a timely fashion.
