This is a great base camp for hiking. Campground is equipped and well-maintained. You are remote and out of touch with the world.
Very beautiful.

The birding is the best! The trails and area are wonderful. Our campsite #9 was good but on a strange tilt making for a sleeping experience that was at an odd downhill angle. And due to the recent heavy rains, the trails in the campground were rutted and washed out. The Bush trail was harder to get through than the Tejas because of the recent rains. Other than those minor things it was very nice for a primitive setting. Facilities were clean and the rangers were very personable.

This is a small and relatively isolated campground. It's an absolute treasure and trailhead for a beautiful nature walk full of a wide variety of fall flowers. You can also join the Tejas and Bush trails from here. If you're coming from Pine Springs campground be ready for a 2 hour drive. Consider stopping by Sitting Bull Falls in NM on the way in or out. Just gorgeous in the midst of the Chiuauan desert.

A small camp ground with great views. The only thing available there is water, so pack heavy.

On Labor Day weekend with a near capacity campground the Ranger station was unoccupied. Printed info on the park and trails was unavailable. No trail maps were available. The Tejas trail is in need of maintenance. A tree was down over the trail 0.5 mile from the trailhead. It had obviously been down for some time. It's foliage had died some time ago and a well worn trail had formed around the tree. No cairns were present when crossing stream beds.
The campground itself is claustrophobic. The tent pads at campsites #3 and #4 are less than fifteen feet apart. On the upside the area had received abundant rainfall and the wildflowers were in full bloom.
