On Labor Day weekend with a near capacity campground the Ranger station was unoccupied. Printed info on the park and trails was unavailable. No trail maps were available. The Tejas trail is in need of maintenance. A tree was down over the trail 0.5 mile from the trailhead. It had obviously been down for some time. It's foliage had died some time ago and a well worn trail had formed around the tree. No cairns were present when crossing stream beds.
The campground itself is claustrophobic. The tent pads at campsites #3 and #4 are less than fifteen feet apart. On the upside the area had received abundant rainfall and the wildflowers were in full bloom.

The flies were so bad you couldn't breathe without inhaling one! I'm sure there is some form of pest control that can assist with this pestilence. Anything is better than nothing!

Dog Canyon is a wonderful small campground with access to several hiking trails wit great natural diversity and varying degrees of challenge. The camp wifi was a big plus since cell coverage is miles away. The drive on Guadalupe rim road is spectacular. Just be aware that just about any other amenity is a 2 hour drive away!
