Very basic campground with clean pit toilets, water and trash disposal area. What jazzed us the most was the group of bighorn sheep that were in the campground everyday! Once just 20 feet from us... was a terrific experience. The short walk to the rim views were outstanding, visitors center was great. Would stay again!

I travel to different destinations in the U.S. at certain times of the year to enjoy the best weather. I love to go to Canyon Rim campground at Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area usually in mid-June. The temps during the day are usually up to 80 by then and the nights around 50. Perfect! The scent of the pines and the gentle breeze coming across Red Canyon is simply heaven for this Iowa native. The views from Canyon Rim of the Flaming Gorge reservoir below are simply fantastic. Watching the Red Tail hawks soar above the canyon walls and the Whistling Marmots sunbathing on rock outcroppings or a log is very relaxing and that is why I go there. This is a great place to relax and rejuvenate the spirit and the body.
Along with the spectacular views from the canyon's edge, it is a complete thrill to see herds of Rocky Mountain Sheep running through the campground or just grazing peacefully with their offspring in tow. The more active camper can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, or horseback riding the Canyon Rim Trail. Guided horseback trips and bicycle rentals can be had at the nearby Red Canyon Lodge. I love to have eat an occasional meal there and to sit out on their deck and use the Wi-Fi.
I have always found the campground hosts to be extremely friendly and helpful and, although you can usually find an open "first come first-served" site, I highly recommend that you reserve a site for your stay. I come all the way from Iowa to stay here and I would hate to arrive to find the campground full.
