About Buffalo Park

Buffalo Park is a small day use and campground park, located on John H. Kerr Reservoir. The campground is open May 1 - September 30. The Day Use Park is open year-around. Kerr, also known as Buggs Island Lake, is a 50,000-acre lake that extends 39 miles up the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. Kerr Reservoir was created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952. Its 800 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across six counties in two states and offer countless recreation opportunities for visitors.

Very well maintained campground. The showers are very clean, though I never managed to get hot water. I had very invigorating cold showers !
The area for the tent sites is conveniently located by the lake but does not afford any privacy at all and I guess must be pretty exposed during the hot Summer weather.

Our spot was perfectly flat, next to the water so we could launch a kayak right in, and well kept.

A smaller park, quiet when I was there (after the school year started). The pad was fairly level, the water and power fine. My waterfront site overlooked the lake, but there was no easy access to the water. A path led to the bank, but the drop off was not easy to negotiate. There was a day visit section that had a nice little beach, playground, bathroom, boat entry, and a pavilion. The central bathhouse was very nice, clean, and private. The shower water temp only made it to tepid, but the day was very hot so that was not a problem. The only easy water access was the children's beach. The shoreline was quite littered. No nearby hiking trails unless one wants to drive to another area of the lake. Overall, a nice campground, well maintained other than the shoreline.

The spaces are a little tight and not very private, so watch your windows on your RV to make sure you have privacy before changing or showering. The beach was dirty and littered with trash, even though there are everywhere. The bath house was on point. Clean and big with nice showers and facilities to do your business if you choose that instead of your RV. Which brings me to the dump station. If you have a trailer longer than 20 ft, you will have a hard time at the very little dump station, unless you have an extra long hose that can go under your trailer or your dump side is the passenger side. Overall was pretty quiet and the hosts are very nice.
