About Buffalo Park

Buffalo Park is a small day use and campground park, located on John H. Kerr Reservoir. The campground is open May 1 - September 30. The Day Use Park is open year-around. Kerr, also known as Buggs Island Lake, is a 50,000-acre lake that extends 39 miles up the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River in Virginia and North Carolina. Kerr Reservoir was created with the construction of the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952. Its 800 miles of wooded shoreline stretch across six counties in two states and offer countless recreation opportunities for visitors.

Would have been nice if the weeds were not knee high to get to the water. There was poison ivy growing over the path. Logs in the way and on the beach. The water level was up which I realize that is not the parks fault. We had no beach area at the campsite or swimming area. Also didn’t put the boat in due to logs floating all in the lake. Again not their fault but mother nature’s.

Site is slightly downhill and unlevel. Electrical hookup had 2 bad breakers so only have of our camper worked. Luckily my husband is an electrician and fixed it until maintenance came to swap breakers. Site may be better suited for a tag along, not a fifth wheel.
