Lovely quiet campground. Near a road but little traffic. Best spots are down by the river. Good base for hiking in surrounding area (nothing immediate from campground) and not to White Salmon, Hood River.

It was a lovely campsite, easy to navigate and you could get to the creek which was lovely. We were at campsite 4 which was a little noisy due to being right next to the road and the toilets (with a door that slammed after each guest), but it was still worth visiting!

We had an excellent time at Moss Creek and would love to return in the future. Site 14 is as nice as advertised. We stayed overnight on a Thursday and had the loop to ourselves save for a few walkers heading down to the creek. One thing we realized is that the vault toilet on the map is actually uphill and not as pictured, so if you stay at sites 13 and 14, prepare to hike a bit.
Our camp host was very welcoming. The vault toilets at the center of the campground were in great shape. The accessible one was a bit rough. The water was out, but Recreation.gov did a good job notifying in advance, so it wasn’t a surprise that dampened our visit.

A great starting off place for good hiking- the trail starting at the campground to the lava butte is a real challenge! downed trees, slippery slopes- easy river crossing early in the year. At 27B I could barely see other campers and, this year, no loud generators or music.

This is my new favorite small campground within easy driving distance of Portland, Oregon. If you can, one of the sites along the Little White Salmon River, you’ll be very lucky. (My small extended family of 6 were lucky to have done so, and the two kids in our group loved splashing in the river.). The only downside was no potable water, but we were made aware of this and came prepared, so there was no issue. The campground host was very responsive, even though he splits his time between two campgrounds and it’s not always available on site.
