What Guests Are Saying

The Oklahoma Campground features a beautiful location with spacious sites, respectful campers, and a friendly host. The facilities are well-maintained, including clean restrooms, although the single water pump and limited privacy at the campsites pose challenges. While access to the nearby river is somewhat restricted, the campground remains a peaceful spot even during busy holiday weekends.

The facility:
The campground is in good condition. The vault toilets were as clean as those at any other campground. There is only one water pump for the whole place, so bring water jugs that can be carried. The online map is not accurate. It leads you to believe there is a SW entrance and NE exit back to NF-18, but there is no exit. Instead, there is a turnaround. Be cautious about driving a long rig into the campground to explore, as you may need to back out along the 300-foot road. Following the details listed on each campsite is probably safe; however, for example, campsite #7 states it can accommodate a 40-foot RV, but if you were to drive that RV to explore the rest of the campground before setting up, the turnaround at the end might be an unpleasant surprise.

The experience:
If you camp here, be prepared for a social experience because there is little privacy or seclusion. The campsites are somewhat grouped together in tight clusters, which is good if you’re going out with multiple cars and friends. Even if you get a campsite that is not part of a group cluster, it will still be very close to other sites and have little seclusion.

If you're looking to walk around or have access to the Little White Salmon River, you might be disappointed. We spotted a few paths that looked like they went to the water, but they all began in someone’s campsite, so it was a bit awkward getting to a path to explore. There were also a few paths that cut over to NF-18, but again, to use them meant you were walking right through someone’s campsite.

This campground was surprisingly quiet for the holiday weekend we were there! The restrooms were clean, and the campground was clean. Our disappointment lies in how close together the campsites are, giving little to no privacy with many. We had reserved site 5 for use with our small teardrop trailer and discovered upon arrival that although our trailer would parallel to the site (but not within the site), the parking area was not level enough to accommodate the trailer! Why is this site listed as being able to accommodate a trailer? Fortunately a FCFS site with better elevation was available that we were able to move to, even though it meant another payment. Better photos and descriptions on this website could help these situations!! Our other concern was there was no camp host onsite. Although this was a quiet campground, we did see a mountain lion at the entrance of the campground. Having someone to immediately report this to would’ve have been helpful.

Stayed in #11 with a 27-foot camper. The turn-around at the end was okay though any RV mover than about 28 feet would be difficult. Getting into the spot was also tough with the size of our RV (lots of trees, branches, etc. directly off the road) but once we were set it was great. Campground was clean, especially pit toilets. Hate to recommend because it was that good!! Several of the sites are close together to enable group camping but 11 was mostly private. Not much access to the river/creek, since most of the access would require a walk through a camping site but there wasn't much to the river/creek anyway.

Loved the area, not internet service made wonderful. the sites are nice and flat, most of them perfect for groups, if not a little too close to each other. site 6 is big. 4/5, 7/8 and 9 perfect for a group camp. the river is more like a creek. vault toilet somewhat clean, but smelly. I will definitely camp there again.

We stayed in spot #1 in August 2022. It was mid week so we had no neighbors close by. It's a nice shady spot, with access to the river. As someone else said, #1,2,and 3 are very close to each other, so would be good for a group, or not good if you wanted more privacy. We took our 27' travel trailer, and it worked fine in that spot. We were able to back in easily, and later pull back out to leave, without heading further into the campground to turn around. There are places in the campground to turn around if necessary, but the circle at the end near campsite #15 would be pretty tight for a large RV. The map makes it look like the campground road re-connects with FS-18 near campsite #15, but it does not. You have to go back out the way you came in.

This is one of the cleanest campsites I've ever been to. The garbage was emptied regularly, and the vault toilets were very clean. They even had some air fresheners in place which is a nice touch! We went during the week, so there weren't a lot of campers nearby. The sites are fairly spaced out to where you don't feel cramped, with the exception of a few. I've seen a few reviews stating the lack of potable water, but the water pump was functioning just fine when we were there. My only complaint is that there is no place to obtain firewood nearby, but that is a minor inconvenience as we just traveled into Bingen to get some. There is no real swimming spot, but there is a small creek that flows through the campground where you can get your feet wet. We ended up going over to Hood River to spend the afternoon and swim. All in all, this was a great place and we plan to visit again next summer!
