Fort Spokane

We always enjoy Fort Spokane.
We very much DISLIKE having to reserve campsites on line or by phone, ahead of arrival.
We rarely see any Park Service staff.

Great access to the river. Nice to get the nightly visit from the family of mule deer!

Love Fort Spokane and the absolute quiet once everyone shuts off their generators. Wish you could return to first-come, first-served! Never can know what weather will do. 😏 critical for those who travel far to visit.

Last summer the park was closed at times to resurface the drive lanes and parking areas at campsites.
That would have been the perfect time to upgrade those sites. Some of the 'doglegs' entering or exiting the individual sites are pretty tight.
And yet they maintain the same width as if no turns were in place. Curve widening should have been a part of the repaving project.
Then campers could easily comply with the requirement to stay on the roadways.
Consequently when pulling trailers, which most campers do, either the pulling vehicle or the trailing vehicle will leave the pavement.
Also. Between Site 40 and Site 38 is a culvert. The culvert was initially too short for the roadway. It should have been extended by at least 3 feet at either end to accommodate vehicles with trailers leaving those camp sites. As is, only by very precise and careful steering can drivers avoid dropping one or more wheels into the ditch that culvert serves.

This is a beautiful campground with lots of tall pines. Many of the campsites such as mine, # 22, are off by themselves. The river runs along the side of the campground for fishing, swimming, and boating. I didn't find any long hiking trails but lots of short little trails for walking my dog. I think most if not all of the campsites were pull through with plenty of room for a camper and vehicle. Drinking water was very close by. The restrooms were very clean and the hosts were very nice.
